Happy accountability day for all those who celebrate.
Jury selection begins today in Trump's NY Criminal Trial
Just a reminder and head off RJ's usual bs.
1. A non disclosure agreement is not a license to commit criminal acts
2. Falsifying business documents is a misdemeanor but falsifying business documents to cover up another crime is a felony.
---
The jury may ultimately find that Trump is innocent
The judge may take the jury's guilty verdict and decide that it was an overzealous prosecution and give a slap on the wrist
Trump could have a complete meltdown in court and face contempt charges
----
No matter how it ends, no one is above the law so I am personally glad that Trump is at least on trial for his alleged crimes.

The New York Court has summoned more than 100 potential jurors and the selection process could take weeks.

It's encouraging that the court is reframing the legal issue as election interference. Considering the margin of his 2016 victory was 80,000 votes spread over 3 states it's more than reasonable to assume revealing this news would be enough to tip the election to Hillary. That would have spared us all the dislocation we've experienced since.

Trump has been charged with specific crimes; not among them is election interference in any form. Expanding the trial beyond the four corners of the indictment is a foolish mistake.

Trump's supporters won't care. They think he's the victim, not the perpetrator. They're happy to have a criminal who tried to circumvent the election process and whose supporters on 1/6 tried to overthrow the country as their leader.
One who wonders how a polity could wind up a dictatorship would do well to study Trump and his supporters; that is surely one way for it to happen.

Legal analysis here (fron NY Magazine and CNN's legal analyst): nymag.com/intelligencer/article/donald-trump-trial-is-rorschach-test.htmlRemember: this is a left wing hack's analysis of this case. Not a knowledgeable neutral attorney like Dershowitz or Turley who both think this case is absurd.

It's encouraging that the court is reframing the legal issue as election interference. That would have spared us all the dislocation we've experienced since. Sure. That will get any conviction overturned quickly. Trump has been charged with specific crimes; not among them is election interference in any form. Expanding the trial beyond the four corners of the indictment is a foolish mistake. That's actually going to be necessary for this to be a felony case. Bad record keeping is, at best, a misdemeanor in New York. In order to get to the felony, Bragg is arguing that the payment to Daniels is a campaign finance law violation. Of course the problem with this is Trump didn't spend campaign money on this, so the problem becomes: the hush money payment is legal so 1) Either the campaign needs to make the payment from campaign funds... but this actually wouldn't be legal because this payment isn't in furtherance of the election. And in any event this didn't happen. 2) Trump pays, which means it's not a campaign expense, therefore not subject to campaign finance law, and therefore no additional crime took place beyond misdemeanor record keeping beyond its statute of limitations. As with everything TDS, the mental defectives in DA Bragg's office are trying to have this both ways. And the record keeping violation by itself, which is not making public the nature of a NDA, immolates the concept of an NDA to begin with. So this can't be illegal either.
