I've already said this is something good to come out of the administration. For a few days this week Trump was having himself a win streak until he picked up his phone. I'm guessing Trump getting to stare at Kim Kardashian was the biggest part of him going along with this.

Guess Trump sees his future and is trying to mitigate it.

Trump is just preparing to make his stay in federal prison as comfy as possible. I'll bet he's been watching that prison scene from Goodfellas to prepare.

I find it kinda interesting in Trump's selective 'ahhhh memory'.
Wasn't he the guy that wanted to crack down on bad guys?
Wasn't he the guy that said he would 'protect' gun owners rights?
IF BS was electricity...now with Donald Trump around....we would never have to burn one more ton of coal.
And don't misunderstand me....I think the prison changes and the bump stock thing is good. But is there anything that this bastard hasn't 'flipped' on?
OH yeah the blipp'n wall.
Jackass.

Maybe 'they' should be thinking about diverting the funds for 'the wall' for a new executive wing in a federal penitentiary for himself and his cronies. 🎯

Much support for the this from conservatives comes from many of them who have done time for white collar crimes, showing the value of prosecuting such crimes. One has to wonder, with everything about Trump, if he will change his mind about signing this bill. But, I understand that it passed both Houses with veto-proof majorities, so it doesn't matter.

The Trump administration has been working on this. In fact, Jared Kushner has been actively involved in criminal justice reform since Trump took office. There's a lot of credit due to the administration for this.

You and I obviously have different definitions of “pathetic”. Pathetic is sleeping with porn stars while your wife has just given birth to your son, then lying about paying them off. Pathetic is bowing to our enemies and disrespectful to our allies. Pathetic is lying daily. Pathetic is when no on will work in the White House. Pathetic is proudly saying he would shut down the government over a wall which Mexico was supposed to pay for. Pathetic is mocking a handicapped person. Pathetic is mocking Gold Star families (yes, plural). Just for starters.

I would laugh if he vetos it until he gets the money for the wall that the Party of the KKK also voted for, in 2006.

He can share a cell with Mueller, The Puppet, Holder, and the rest of the fascists from The Puppet's regime. The Felon can share her cell with Lynch and Lerner.

Closest thing to a job The Puppet ever had.

The angry hate filled leftists have nothing but insults as usual. They are whistling past the graveyard, since Mueller is far more likely to wind up behind bars than Trump. RICO violations are felonies, don't you know. So is extortion, and treason. Supporting a coup is treason.

The Puppet and his apology tour, and abandoning Ukraine and Crimea, starting a war in Libya then abandoning Libya, exacerbating a civil war in Syria, then handing it all over to Putin. The Puppet, your god. "If you like your doctor...." When you have a treasonous "special counsel" threatening you and your family if you ever spoke to Trump, when you have the Goebbels media attacking you and your family daily, when you are threatened with lawsuits, not for doing anything wrong, but because you work for Trump, it's no wonder. It takes a special kind of strong to withstand all the hate, attacks, and lies. He should shut it down. And tell everyone why, that the Party of the KKK is far more interested in "protecting" illegal Democrats than they are Americans. That they want to raise your taxes to support the welfare, "free" medical, and "free" education for all the parasites they are busy importing, so they can get their votes. He didn't. The Felon wasn't there, and neither was The Puppet. He didn't. He mocked a man that was using his son's death for political purposes. If he didn't want to face the heat, he should have stayed out of the kitchen.

I would laugh if he vetos it until he gets the money for the wall that the Party of the KKK also voted for, in 2006. Honestly, First Step is more important than the wall, and the Democrats don't want it. Keeping minorities heavily involved in the criminal justice system is important to them. Why do you think they work so hard to over-criminaloze the big cities? State and local level Dems now have pressure on them to roll back their more onerous regulations. Otherwise it's Trump and the GOP that are doing something for the constituents they live to oppress.

Doesn’t first step affect only federal prisoners?

Doesn’t first step affect only federal prisoners? Yes. It doesn't even affect a whole lot of them. That's why it's called "First Step." It isn't intended to be a comprehensive solution. It's incremental movement in the right direction, with an acknowledgement that additional steps are needed. I know the idiot left loves their massive, sweeping reform legislation. And none of you have learned a damn thing from Obamacare. But careful, incremental progress is the more sensible approach.

See if all that other stuff ever happens. It’s ironic that “tough on crime” Trump pulled a 180 and signed this bill. Either way, we’re in agreement. This is a win for Trump.

Most of the people this impacts are only marginally criminals. Doing thus incrementally allows for better responses to unintended consequences. Small changes are easier to reverse than big ones when things go sideways.
