That's one of the things I miss about not working downtown anymore is the ships and flyovers. The last time it was the blue angels and I loved it when they made the office building shook! Yeah!

While growing up in South River NJ not much after Korean War. We had Sabres, Scorpions, Delta's constantly going over and going Mach. My Mom lost some dishes. Now a friend of ours has a place on the Magothy River...Blues and Thuder gave us some really nice practice shows. One or two got a little hot doggish and did something like this.....over the water...the image when he kicks.....the vapor is indescribable.

Saw the Geico T-6s practicing today from Atlantic Terminal. Then some guy by himself in a small Aerobatic plane, couldn't tell what kind it was. Then the T-Birds flew around for a bit. Low Ceiling so they couldn't do much. Hope the weather clears for Sunday or it just won't be much.

I heard them flying yesterday. Admittedly I never say them but the past few days and just a few minutes ago. I have been hearing jets overhead and that never happens around here. And the sound of a fighter v a low flying commercial is totally different. Practicing for something Trump is planning? 😏

I never really got the attraction. I appreciate the skill and I’m glad we have the protection. But the shows seem expensive, loud, and not very interesting to me. So is flying Trump to his golf courses every weekend. 🤣 I have always been into aviation. I can pretty much tell you something about every fighter or bomber during WW2 and since. Back during the cold war...while these demonstration teams did exist to promote support of the military spending and keep people interested. At that time it was not really necessary IMO. Where I lived in South River NJ almost every day I saw flights of Sabers, Delta fighters ...sometimes going sonic. You want a rush...watch a B-58 Hustler bomber flying at about 800 feet. Yikes Times changed, no more flyovers, no more reassuring 'we got your back don't worry' displays of air power. Today...these shows are pretty much all the military has to demonstrate that 'we got your back, don't worry'. And maybe to inspire some really sharp and intelligent people to serve and not become politicians or hedge fund managers. IMO.

By delta I assume F-102's which were supersonic.

The Scorpion flew sub-sonic...around 638 in bursts. I forgot to mention the Starfighter...it could hit Mach 2... I saw a few of those also Dang it ...I wish it would start cooling off so I can justify getting back to my modeling workbench. So many models so little time. 😄 Challenge question: What was the first aircraft that did NOT need afterburners to reach Mach that went into production.

The Dart and 104 were late 50's, not just post Korean war. The sabre might have gone mach in a dive but certainly not level flight. Speed is nice but it's the total package that counts. Avionics is a huge part of that package but from a entirely tits perspective the old Crusader was the ultimate seat of the pants bird of the late 50's.
(Imagine naming a fighter "The Crusader" NOWADAYS)!

Yeah the Crusader was a kick butt plane. I love the innovation of 'tilting' the wing to improve launch lift. Now if you want to talk kick butt....how about the Phantom...both versions.....that thing was a brute. Talk about strapping a rocket on your back...yikes!!!! In fact I think that was one of the first jet aircraft (Vietnam camo) I built. IMO...I view the Phantom during that era with the Gullwing F4U Corsair of WW2 incredible power....incredible heavy lift ability....and could be as nimble in the right hands as any plane 1/2 its' size and weight. Whistling Death...……………….this gives me chills...…..

Whistling Death...……………….this gives me chills...….. I saw thousands of Phantom and Viggie (RA-5C's) launches, in a word HOT exhaust but at night quite beautiful J-79's like blowtorches streaking into the air. Certainly not old enough to have seen the bent wing bastard as it was called outside of airshows. They all had their functions, most performed remarkably well with the dogs thrown aside while still relatively new. The 50's was IMO the age of wonder and experimentation... Seamaster, Pogo, Gutless Cutlass, Seadart, Skyray and many more innovative designs that were both crazy and ahead of their time.
