Okay, Magellan. In case you didn't realize it's only a 30 minute drive from Shenandoah to Charlottesville. Takes a little bit longer to get to that winery ...... Google claims 1 hour 10 minutes to cover the 66 miles.

35 miles but thanks for playing. It probably takes a little longer on your moped.
I went to a Rose wine tasting last night. When it comes to wine I'm always thinking White or Red but that Rose was awesome.

Had a great Rose from Portugal the other night that came from the Vino Verde region but was not a VV.
Oh and side note, if anyone has even an inkling of wanting to go to Portugal, go to Portugal. Amazing, amazing country with great wine!

The wines we had were from New Zealand, South Africa, Italy, France and California. The Coppola Sophia and the Whispering Angel were the best IMO.

We went to Big Cork on Sunday. Had a wine club shipment to pick up and we polished off two bottles while there. They have really good wine, maybe as good or better than Black Ankle. The scenery is better, too.

Does anyone frequent any of the locals .?? Absolutely!
IMO you have to go a bit outside of the city to get to the good ones.
Black Ankle is 20 mins from my house (in Frederick Co) and we're wine club members. Best wines in the state, IMO.
Big Cork in Rohrsville is good too. Also wine members there.
Old Westminster is solid. Used to be members there.
Boordy in Harford Co is good too. Used to go to their chili festival. Good times.
Drawing blanks on some other ones...but Northern VA wineries are even better!
Stone Tower winery is excellent and we like Fox Meadow.
pickle20 - same on Black Ankle, about 20 minutes. in New Market.

We were in Va last weekend headed to a concert. I saw Stone Tower on the map but it looked pretty pricey so we opted for Boxwood Estate. We likes the reds so much we got our friends to visit on the way home. If you liked Fox Meadow, have you been to Linden.??

Mrs MOTR and I started getting into wines about 7 years ago now. Been to wineries from Charlottesville to the northern edge of Lake Seneca - some excellent reds up that way, believe it or not. It's kind of funny - I enjoy meeting the people who own and operate the small wineries as much or more than I like the wine!

Go a little further north to Niagara-on-the-Lake. Excellent wine region up there across the border from Niagara Falls. If you're going all the way down to Linden and Fox Meadow, go to Delaplane. Their wine is better.

Did see some kids there. I believe they want behaved ones there.

Well, those complaints are from parents, obviously.
I've been to some wineries where kids are allowed (Bluemont) and the place was a zoo.

No, it was the owners. Someone called about bringing theirs, and the owner said they would prefer you didn't for people to enjoy the wine. Which of course caused an uproar of comments on their site. OWW has sectioned off an area for adults only at theirs.

Anyone interested in putting together a wine afternoon? Perhaps some place in NOVA or MD? Just one place or several .?? Depends. Both NOVA and MD have bunches of wineries. If we do NOVA, there are, I think, more wineries, closer together than may be the case in MD, making multiples easier and safer. On the other hand, one winery, particularly if one of the group is a member, let’s us bring cheese tray stuff to enjoy.

Is the purpose to meet and talk or to taste and compare wines from multiple wineries ......
Going to winery to winery as a group of most likely single folks doesn't seem pratical....
We used to have sunspot fest back in the day, I went to a couple.....

Had a very nice Meritage from Paradise Springs Winery, near Clifton, VA last weekend. Will most certainly order several bottles.

I really wish that I could still drink wine and beer. Unfortunately, I developed an allergy to sulfites. Unfortunately, U.S. wines and beer manufacturers, and imports add additional sulfites. It's hard to find sulfite free beverages in restaurants but once in a while I will buy a sulfite-free beverage to have at home or take with me to a BYOB event. Otherwise, I just don't bother drinking. What beers are sulfite free?
