Machado has an opt-out after 2023, which I imagine he will use. He can surely be paid again somewhere else, for more.
No, I don't want him back here. We don't need him and I don't trust his professionalism. I have heard that he turned around his lack of that displayed a few times here when he went out there, but who knows?

As a Yankee fan, I can attest to the fact that having an all-star lineup of overpaid Free Agent acquisitions doesn't guarantee a World Series win. Managing all those big egos is a challenge for building and maintaining team chemistry.

Machado to Henderson to Mountcastle just doesn't roll off the tongue like Tinker to Evers to Chance, does it?

The Yanks {on paper} could have the best pitching rotation in baseball next season.

Half a billion on two players. Will the Yankees be able to buy their first championship since they bought their last one in 2009?

Half a billion on two players. Will the Yankees be able to buy their first championship since they bought their last one in 2009? Oh, I hope not. It pleases me when they spend a great deal of money and get little to show for it. But clearly they have it to spend and they do not care, which tells us the luxury tax is a joke. The fact that the Yankees and one or two others can poach all the best players is why baseball is becoming less interesting to me every year.

First the Giants, now the Mets are concerned about Carlos Correa's physical:
If the deal with the Mets falls through, no one else will offer him a long-term deal.

Every team should have concerns about committing that many years to a player.

Every team should have concerns about committing that many years to a player. Particularly now, when it is more difficult to sustain the careers of age 35+ players without PEDs, as I suspect was fairly routine a few years ago.

Saw an article today that these really long deals are a way to escape the luxury tax.

The Yanks {on paper} could have the best pitching rotation in baseball next season. Yup, they bought themselves a nice rotation.

I wonder if these other teams are considering giving him $300 mil after two teams potentially walk away from a deal because of injury concerns.

I would rather the Yankees pay him, likely damaging their franchise and incurring a luxury tax for doing so! Although it appears to be a fairly toothless tax these days.

Will play baseball for a mere $2 million a year in these hard scrabble times... For all front office managers, please contact me here.

Modern players (in all sports) seem to number among them a great many diva-types whose opinion of their own value is not consistent with their ability to play or to stay healthy (necessary to offer a team value for the money). Owners and/or governors really need to let them walk away, but the problem is, every league has a few idiot owners who can't do that and ruin it for the game by signing these people.
