Evidently they have been trying to structure this around Peter's death because if the sale closes after he dies they will pay significantly less in taxes. I therefore suspect that, at 94, he is close to the end.
He saved baseball for local folks, but then horribly mismanaged the team in every sense. Hopefully the new owners will be better.

Johnboy must have been upset that Maryland didn't hand over everything he wanted. Good riddance.
Hopefully the future Orioles will be open to deals longer than 1-2 years.

There were rumors about this going down a month ago. Glad to see it coming to fruition.
I can appreciate the stuff Angelos did off the field; he helped revitalize the area around University of Baltimore, where I went to college. But he was a terrible owner, his son may have been worse, and I am glad to be rid of them.

Yeah I think anyone following the team closely these last few years felt like they were stripping the team down to the nuts and bolts in preparation for a sale. It became very obvious to me when I went to a game for the first time in 5 years back in 2022. It felt like a store that was having a going out of business sale.

Does your insider know anything about a starting pitcher addition? Haha no, I wish. He's more involved with the marketing side of things.

Can they get this story right. The group is buying 40% of the team for $1.725 billion and that is not the full value of the team.
Angelo's is said to own 80% of the team

But the media is announcing it as $1.725 billion for the whole team. Until you read the story then it says 40%. I'm sure there are people just hearing the amount and thinking that's pretty cheap for a sports team.

I'm seeing nothing but good news so far. Indeed. Good group of owners coming in. Deep pockets. Will be interesting to see what changes take place, like prioritizing (aka, get'er done) signing Adly and Gunnar long term. Not to mention grabbing another front line starter.

I'm happy for the O's to finally be approaching the end of the Angelos era but will start hating if your new owners start outspending the Yankees

I remember how wonderful Baltimoreans thought it was when Angelos bought the team. And we saw how that turned out.
So while I will hope... I will not except anything better until they show me.

I remember how wonderful Baltimoreans thought it was when Angelos bought the team. And we saw how that turned out. He was actually a good, if not great owner up until following the 97 season. He freely spent and brought in a lot of big free agents. Then he got weird, cheap, and killed the team up until the BS era.

Couldn't believe he fired Davy Johnson following that season.

The rumor is that he was right and his managers wrong about some baseball decision, and he came to believe that applied to every baseball decision. The truism about blind squirrels comes to mind. I don't recall the details, if I ever knew them.

Same thing Angelos did to future Hall of Fame broadcaster Jon Miller, because he "didn't bleed orange" i.e. he criticized the team when it deserved that.
