I admire that he's at least trying, but stopping the flow of something that's already likely illegal to begin with is tilting windmills.
The real solution is changing the culture, but that's complicated in a city that has one arm tied behind its back.

If you know the source of the guns flooding the streets, you have a better chance at stopping them from entering the city/state. The drug & crime culture is unfortunately on the rise across the globe. No amount of after school camps is going to contend with quick cash.

If you know the source of the guns flooding the streets, you have a better chance at stopping them from entering the city/state. The thing is, it's most likely 1000's of sources of illegally transferred (multiple times), and stolen, guns. It would be like trying to kill a nest of cockroaches with a flyswatter - in the dark. I do think the ATF should absolutely provide the information, however.

Sure, it likely doesn't solve anything in and of itself but like GI Joe said, knowing is half the battle.

The only reason NOT to provide access to the information is a lack of trust that it will be kept secure. That problem is exacerbated when one considers the number of mayors, sheriffs, Chiefs of Police, City Managers, etc. that will want access. And then will be the State level. Not a computer guy at all, but perhaps there is a means of providing an excerpt of some kind. FWIW, I don't think Mayor Scott has much of a chance of winning any such lawsuit.

Should be, at least for basic statistical analysis.

I hope he gets what he thinks he needs. But I wonder if this in response to the criticisms that his MONSE Safe Streets program does not require guns used in disputes to be reported.
