There are very few times I agree with an opinion found on CNN, but this person NAILED it! linkUgh, I too can relate. I rarely used to go to the movies other than to perhaps see a simulcast of a Met Opera performance (I know, a bit geeky but it's a love of mine); though with small grandchildren now, I've picked up the pace somewhat. Given the ridiculous prices for admission, not to mention the borderline extortion prices for popcorn and beverages, I probably would never go were it not for my grandchildren who find the experience magical and that helps ameliorate some of my grumpiness of old age.

By coincidence we had the opportunity to baby sit for a neighbor today, a 7 yr old and a 9 yr old. Took them to see the Kung Fu Panda movie. The movie was 94 minutes. The commercials and trailers took 38!

But the clowns will wonder why people aren't going to movie theaters.

But the clowns will wonder why people aren't going to movie theaters. On top of this, we had to pay a "convenience fee" for ordering the tickets on line!

While I'm not the kind of person to believe much in regulation as a solution to curb unbridled greed, I can at least understand why the mindset exists among those that do with examples like these. Fees... The new F word for our times. We're definitely getting Fee'd a lot it seems.

I saw Dune 2 yesterday at Warehouse Cinemas in Frederick. Bought tix online and was hit with $3 and change for "ordering fee". I told my wife, now this is something Congress needs to look into. It's plain old greed for greed's sake. At any rate, Dune 2 was awesome and there weren't that many previews.

You are paying a fee to make sure you have a seat and not show up to a sold out theater.
Could wait for it on a streaming service which you pay for.

If Congress hasn't made TicketBastard stop doing what they do, it won't do anything about this, I fear.

We rarely go to the movies anymore.
I'm pretty sure the last time was Maverick because we wanted to see it at IMAX.
Too expensive, people can be rude, too many ads.... I'd rather sit in the comfort of my own home and eat food that isn't marked up by 5,000%!

I've become much more picky with the movies I see in the theater. I used to see a movie in the theater about once a week. Maybe more. But the watered down state of movies stopped that, and yeah it is expensive, but there is still nothing like seeing a good movie on the big screen. As good as your home system can be, and believe me I have tried to replicate it, nothing compares.
I've also found a theater that I really like where the A/V is always perfect, they have $7 Tuesdays, and the audience for the most part has been respectful. Then again I am not seeing the movies that most idiots go and see. Reclining chairs and a full bar doesn't hurt either.

I miss the $4.00 days at Golden Ring. Of course you had to figure out which of the 3 areas your movie was in.

I reserve my seat and arrive just in time to get situated and see the movie's opening. Rarely a moment sooner.
