Sunspot veteran and moderator Baltimatt, aka, Matthew M. De Rouville, died four years ago today. He was an early victim of the COVID-19 pandemic. www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/toms-river-nj/matthew-de-rouville-9109233?utm_source=obit_alerts&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=remembrance_dayBaltimatt was a polite, courteous, and calming presence in the Sunspot community for years. He and I would often disagree and verbally clash, but Baltimatt was always reasonable and dignified in how he comported himself and treated others. May he RIP. His Dignity memorial Obituary page contains a relatively recent comment (6.23.2023) from an old friend who only became aware of his death in June 2023. It is a very informative narrative and reveals much about Baltimatt's background.

It's quite a reminder to us all we are so much more than any online persona we assume on places like these.

He really did have a calming presence and he is missed.
That was a very nice tribute from his childhood friend.
Thank you for sharing, Kandace.

Thanks, kandace, for sharing that link.
I always had a great respect for Matt, even though we occasionally disagreed on a subject. To me he was a voice of reason, always calm and balanced, and indeed, a true gentleman. I feel privileged to have known him, even if only virtually through social media.
Rest in Peace Matt, you are sorely missed.

Well said, Kandace.
I regret not meeting Matt in person when he invited me to meet up with him and upstream.

May he continue to rest in peace. He was a voice of moderation (in the calming sense, here) and peace and I miss him.

I recall meeting him a few times at some EU get togethers, or maybe it was at Fells Point. Super nice guy. Lost far too young. Crazy how many here have passed on at young ages.

A gentleman of the highest order.

I never knew Matt was such an accomplished man. I had many conversations with him at the "'fests" and always enjoyed his company. Since I rarely wandered over to the Locals or Nationals I wasn't part of any of the online arguments, I just remember him always being a positive, upbeat person. Hard to believe it's been 4 years.

He was such a good mod and an interesting person to speak with. He put a lot of time and effort into the boards over the years.

As everyone else said, even though he was a modirator, one would never know it. He saw both sides and gave latitude..... as long as you kept it civil. His posts, comments were always well thought out and considered. I have many big regrets, because I had many opportunities to met with him when a crab feast was called down in Baltimore to meet up. And stupid me, I always had something else to do. Stupid me. Matt was very into shortwave and ham radio. Which I had been early in my life. Matt sparked or should I say renewed the spark and we had many PMs on how to get me ramped up again. Then unfortunately, he got a rebound in cancer .... moved to NJ to be near family.... and caught covid. (At least that is my remembrance). I guess this is sort of a confession of sorts...... or a statement. Don't take anything, especially people, because, well, they may not be there tomorrow, there are no do overs. Do it now.
