Backstory: I got Coconuggets about 4 years ago from the Humane Society. She was a biter so people would adopt her and then return her because they couldn't handle her biting. She is an indoor cat and at least for the past 4 years has not been outside.
Today: She just brought me a baby snake!! Since the cat didn't go outside, the snake must have come inside. Big mistake on the snake's part.

Needlessly to say, my husband will be fixing that door.

One of mine which used to be feral, has been begging to go onto my balcony (three stories up). I already keep the windows open for them (screened) and think that should be enough. But also, a prior cat jumped from that balcony (survived). Finally, over the weekend I gave in and opened the screen. Yep, two front paws out, and quickly back in. She has no interest now. Whew. lol It is also the one that has decided my toes look like a yummy treat. Good news - I won't shoot her!

After a lot of work, we brought in a mom feral cat and her son (sole survivor.... foxes). Long story short, when it started warming up a bit, we started opening up the doors to the screened porch. We figured they would try to tear down the screens and try to get out. Nope, definitely NOPE! Actually they only tentatively went on the porch. In fact, when there was a cool/cold breeze they would go to the store, sniff, sniff again and say screw this..... I remember this..... I am going back to my nice snug bed, clean water and healthy meals that show up on schedule, everyday. 😸 Now that it is warmer, they go out there and spend a lot of time. But.... so far....🫰.... they seem like they realize, that it is nice and safe, and have NO inclination of getting off easy street.

We haven't had any cats for many years now, but when we did, he had a cat flap (door) that they used to come and go as they pleased. I could no more confine a cat, forever, inside my house, than I would confine a dog in it, and never walk it outside. Both would be cruel in my mind.

I could no more confine a cat, forever, inside my house, than I would confine a dog in it, and never walk it outside. Both would be cruel in my mind. If they never know anything else they don't care. And the way people drive in my semi-rural neighborhood, plus the number of higher order predators around, I couldn't let one out. In fact, a place I am considering specifically recommends against it, as has every vet.
