Requires to much exertion I am a hunter...not a very successful one...but a hunter. But what I harvest is totally used nothing is wasted. I just can't square taking an animal simply because it has the largest rack or is exotic. In fact I am appalled by that kind of thinking. I have several family members and friends who are hunters. They feel the same way. If you kill it, you eat it.

Most go out and hunt some more and contribute the venison to 'soup kitchens' and the like to feed the hungry. Many get one and contribute 1/2. Some the whole first one. Most every state has some similar program. Marylands is very robust. Yes we hunters are a mean an nasty group. 😄

Generalization or stereotyping is probably mankind's biggest flaws. I laugh at the many stories I have heard and read where 'rich' people by nice big McMansions in former wooded areas or farm land. Then are screaming bloody murder when there prized expensive plants are eaten by deer. WELL DUH. Then the DEMAND they be removed ...but you can't harvest them. They must be humanely captured...moved and/or sterilized surgically or give them birth control pills. AT THE COUNTIES EXPENSE. Do you have any idea how much it costs to do anyone of those things? Around 500 each. So spend 500...how many poor people will that 500 feed. How much does a hunter feed with a 2 dollar bullet AND how much does the hunter kick back into the DNAs funds through DEDICATED TAXES...that are collected on ammo and guns etc as well as license fees. Monies that help keep the parks going as well as things like trout stocking and creating habitat for wild animals among other things.

But when I go on like that it is in the back of my mind that ….by chance....someone anti-hunter will read this and maybe get at least a different perspective on hunters and hunting. sorry about the rant.

Never went through the expense to have an animal mounted. Game is to eat, not to be displayed as bravado. Antlers are to rattle or to be used as something for the dogs to gnaw on.

Total BS, I doubt a apex carnivore is all that great to eat unless maybe on Naked and Afraid. Are the lions eating endangered species? If not let them alone. Unfortunately I'm down to a zero rabbit population on my property and turkey has been reduced. Fox are no doubt having their way and I'm on the fence to cull that herd.

Because there is no NEED. But I will never understand any part of the need to shoot a sleeping animal such as a lion. This violence toward animals makes my blood boil, and I wish that lion would have mauled that hunter to death before it died.

White rino's for instance. Hunting unless for food out of necessity but to kill a sleeping animal for trophy? I even passed up small yearlings to get a larger hunk of venison. I shoot a lot more paper and enjoy it now then before but unless it was for MY consumption I didn't kill it even back then. Well I lied, copperheads OTOH....... Many areas are over populated with deer, not sure but I don't think hunting is as popular as it was in the 60's and 70's hence over population and CWD which was never a problem.

I was using them for example, I imagine if a pride of lions will eat cape buffalo considered by many to be the baddest boy on the block white rino would be on the menu as well. Having never seen either in the wild I wouldn't know for sure.

This sort of stuff is what gives hunters that harvest and use the meat from shoots of overcrowded deer populations and such, a bad name. I never set out just to shoot a trophy...but unfortunately..too many do. smh.

Poaching is disgusting, in all levels and forms. Be it killing lions for sport, or keeping protected or undersized fish/crabs. I'm completely sick of the behavior and have witnessed so much of it (on the fishing side). Lost all tolerance and patience, and I started talking to DNR about it with regards to seeing it along the Monocacy River. They responded by sending an officer out in a canoe periodically who would paddle up the river and bust the handliners with buckets full of undersized smallmouth bass. This went on for a couple of years, and after a while I started seeing far less of the offenders. I'm glad to see DNR on board with nailing these miscreants. I've read the arrest reports for the fishing bridge in Cambridge, and they've been doling out massive fines for rockfish poaching. Good.

A neighbor found a beheaded deer in her yard the other day. Yep. Someone lobbed off the head of the deer and dumped the rest in her yard. Not sure why anyone would do that. She couldn't get anyone to remove it so it's still there, slowly being eaten by woodland creatures. One leg is now missing and large chunks from the rest of its body. I guess she will have to wait until nature removes it. That's disgusting. My friend lives on a large property found a dead deer. He called animal services and they said they only remove dead deer from roads. So he hauled it to the roadside, called them back and they came and got it. He has a dog so he didn't want to leave it and have the dog keep going after it and catching something from it.
