They want to speed up the game which they slowed down by selling endless advertising. Amusing.
It probably spells the end of the LOOGY.
They are also trying to eliminate a bunch of minor league teams - including the Keys. The theory is that all that minor league training isn't as necessary, and is expensive. In the age of metrics the claim is that they can tell who will reach the show and who will not relatively quickly, and in the age of specialized training they can develop men without playing games. I wonder.

I wonder. I disagree re: advertising, I don't think commercial breaks have grown over the years. Now, football on the other hand... I also agree that those MiL teams can be contracted...there's too many levels of the minors as it is and such a small percentage of those players ever sniff the majors. But since a city like Frederick is on the list to be cut, I am obviously against it. I wonder how Norfolk draws...it would seem logical to cut them from the O's system and bump up the other affiliates: Delmarva-A, Frederick-AA and Bowie-AAA.

Evidently at least part of the selection criteria involves the quality of the facilities. I've been to Harry Grove numerous times and found it nice enough, but of course I don't know what the league considers adequate. My understanding is that when Bowie's stadium was constructed, it was designed to meet the needs of a AAA team. Whether that is true of other stadia in the system or not, I don't know. But I like your idea if it can be done. Norfolk is rather far for men you're rotating up and down as the Orioles have done recently (mostly because they don't have a choice). It is also rather far for the parent club to supervise rehab assignments, which is why a lot of those men get sent to Bowie instead - but they won't face real competition there.

Baseball will soon discover that it has to force teams to put pitchers on the IL if a manager removes them before three batters because of an injury. Otherwise managers will do that to step around the rule.
