Oof. A very winnable game in which the defense was essentially a non-factor.
They falconed that.

Frankly amazed the score was as close as it was. Question for you: were the Bengals season last year an aberration? Burrow looks sad this season so far.

Burrow looks sad this season so far. The Ravens defense just did not show up in the second half, and was inconsistent in the first half. It wasn't spectacular last week, either. They have a real chance to go 1-3 in the first quarter of the season. Belichick doesn't have a great team but he knows Harbaugh better than Harbaugh knows him. And the Bills are talented. I hope not, but I am not optimistic unless they can fix the defense. Or some of the rusty guys shake that off. The offense is likely to improve with the return of its first tier RBs, and it's pretty good now. It might be they have to outscore their opponents this year. Trubisky does not look like the future of a winning franchise. And the loss of Watt is going to hurt them badly on defense. The Bengals have a forest of question marks over their season right now. While Jackson looks better than he did last year, Burrow looks worse. Might be a sophomore slump (yeah, he's in year 3, but he lost most of a season to I forget what kind of bad injury).

Trubisky is average at best. But IMO the big issue is the OC, Canada. Steelers have some great receivers but never seem to go downfield. Plus oline remains a mess. And Watt a huge loss. Defense still has a lot of talent but they can never get off the field!

Hey, well Joe Flacco looked good and pulled out a miracle against the Browns. Thanks Joe!
As for the Ravens, injuries in the secondary really reared it's ugly head yesterday. A lot of rookies on the field at once, a lot of finger pointing and yelling after a myriad of miscommunications and blown assignments.
Shame. Lamar had an MVP type of game, near perfect, at times spectacular. This despite the run game having no success at all. If Lamar is smart, he should see that he cannot do this by himself, and not worry about breaking the bank with his contract - because it will be like this the rest of his career.
I wouldn't worry too much about the Ravens. They'll get some guys back in the coming weeks, and hopefully not have a bunch of noobs out there running in the wrong directions.

Not an excuse...the defense needs to make at least one defensive stop in the second half and we win. But the offense scored so quickly on their drives that the defense was out there all day. And Miami was able to use prolonged drives to keep the defense on their heels. Plus, now they have Hill, who makes magic happen. Our lack of run game also played a part. Need to get the running game going to keep the defense fresh. Hopefully, Dobbins is back for next week, and Edwards soon after that. Tough loss...no team should lose a game in which they have a 21-point lead headed into the 4th quarter, but it happens.
I went to the game with a good friend who is a Dolphins fan, so he got to enjoy it at least.

Pass defense is horrific going back to last year. Apparently the Ravens didn't get the memo that when up by 3 TDs in the fourth quarter, you actually play prevent defense.

This falls on McDonald for not switching over to that alignment. Kyle Hamilton was out of position on at least two of those bombs, biting on play action badly. There was no scenario at that stage where he should have not been playing deep. He's a rookie, but like P20 said, it's not an excuse - the coaches needed to ensure he knew what to be doing. Also, Marcus Williams dropping what would have been his 3rd interception, and a very easy one, was a bad omen. That would have ended the game for the most part. Then again, going back to last year, seems like teams only need about 15 seconds to march the length of the field against this team at the end of games.

Bateman almost caught the hail mary as time expired too.

Bateman almost caught the hail mary as time expired too. Yeah, that was actually really dang close. If Lamar could have gotten a yard or so more length on the throw, Bateman had it.
