How many here know how to drive a stick? Four on the floor, or three on the tree? Most all of "us" know and often still do. My current toy has a Borg Warner Super T10 4 sp. with a 3:31 posi rear. First car was a 7 year old 61 Valiant unbreakable except for a 17 year old on the 3 speed on floor transmission.

How many here know how to drive a stick? Four on the floor, or three on the tree? Currently driving a 6 on the floor, 7 with reverse, haven't driven a column change three for many decades. Auto is still an optional extra here that most do not opt for. Ah, but can you heel and toe?

Manual transmissions are fading away; even Porsche and Ferrari have automatics now. Some have both so you can select. Of course Ferrari has paddle shifters too.

How many here know how to drive a stick? Four on the floor, or three on the tree? Me. I prefer a stick. I feel like I have better control. On the floor except for reverse is easy...column...takes a little trial and error as there are a lot of variations. And yeah I have driven 'big trucks' a few times. ... I even know why in older trucks you need to double clutch...since I did it. I have a Toyota Tacoma Small 4 wheel drive 5 speed. Great handy truck that last forever

I can do a stick, but when I was test driving after not having done so for a while, I felt I had trouble keeping my feet out of each other's way, so it would be best to go with an automatic. Manual is not great with lots of traffic

I want another jeep but my Goldilocks wife says they ride too hard. And research has shown that they are all name now....not a real jeep. Sort of 'all hat no cattle' 😃

I don’t think they are better than Hondas necessarily. I got used to a product that I am happy with.

Our van is over 8 years old....except for the parking lot dings....looks and runs fine. Hence the thought about the Tacoma. My sister/bil have a Tacoma they need for hauling dragsters around. All over the nation...and IMO beat the crap out of it....and it too seems to run and run with only minor repairs and maintenance.

I’m impressed with how much weight these Tacoma’s can pull! Today’s six cylinder engines are way better than the old-school ones

Here’s a story and I’m not necessarily knocking jeeps. A friend of mine took me to a junkyard to find parts. I was looking for Toyota parts he was looking for jeep parts, the only Toyota in the whole junkyard had three guys already taking parts off of it. There were no other Toyotas to be had. Lots and lots of jeeps, tho.

Yes you story does add credence to the quality of the vehicles.

My better half has already gotten a transmission heater fan a back window off of a totaled Tacoma at another junkyard. The guy charged us $400 for the transmission. That was a freaking steal. It’s saved us a bunch of money

My father was a master mechanic...he even worked on the Indy 500 Offenhausers….so of course I have oil in my veins. At least I used to. In the 80's I could still go to junk yards for parts...as time progressed....that became less and less possible due to insurance they claim. So now I just order what I need for the Jeep from Quadratrac. I don't even try to work on the Toyota van.....seems you need a special one use tool which is $$$$$ for most everything. I have started looking into places that have bays to rent with tools or just the tools to rent. For these one shot repairs.

My son has a Jeep with the Mercedes Diesel in it. It's bullet proof. Runs like a top. Now that Jeep is owned by FIAT (Fix It Again Tony) I'd be a little hesitant to buy one.

Yes newer vehicles are hard to work on sometimes impossible.

Now my Brother in law.....saw him tear down an rebuild and old straight 6 chevy block for a 1968 Nova in 3 days. Yikes.

But still the fact that it cost $400 with labor charges we still saved so much money. New Toyota transmissions are expensive!! We did everything else it was pretty simple. We also bought total workings of both doors, which were useless. And rebuild those. Working on doors is a pain but doable.

I had an Datsun pickup with a minicab that had a licensed Mercedes diesel in it. You could not kill that thing if you tried. When I got rid of it pretty much everything had body cancer etc. …..but the engine still ran like a top.

Who remembers the Streetcars in Baltimore? As far as I can remember riding with my Grandmother the fare was 10cents.
Or going to the movies when I was a kid "Hey Mom, can I have a Quarter to go to the movies?" I remember riding the streetcars on Belair Rd, and they turned around at a stop in Overlea. When they stopped the road was a mess while the removed the rails. Both the movies AND gas were 25¢. You could go to the movies and sit in the theater all day watching the same movie over and over..

Down here there are a couple "Pick and Pulls". They catalog online what cars they have and which parts are still available. Their yards are amazingly neat.

Before I started going to school, I rode the streetcar on Harford Rd from Hamilton to the Parkville every Thursday with my Mom for her bowling league. Walked to the Arcade in Hamilton along with a bunch of other neighborhood kids.

Or going to the movies when I was a kid "Hey Mom, can I have a Quarter to go to the movies?" Popcorn was a dime at the Velma on Blair Rd. Nice old ladies at the concession stands. I only had a nickle left after 3 or 4 bags of popcorn so she filled up a brown paper bag for me that was probably twice the size of the regular dime bag. I thanked her and went back to my movie.
