If you didn't watch this last night, you really need to. Without a doubt the best documentary/show about the 2000 Ravens, and some great stories (which I'm sure many Ravens fans knew about). It is also heartbreaking on a few levels. The pain that Trent Dilfer still feels is palpable. The sadness that their 2001 season was de-rerailed by Jamal's injury. And most of all, the loss of Tony Sirgusa, who was in a way the heart of the team.

Haven't watched it yet but it's recorded. I'll probably watch it tonight.
That was such an amazing season on so many levels. I was at the Jacksonville game week 2. I feel like that was the win that really put them on the right track as an organization that in many ways is still going.
Obviously, the decision they made with Dilfer backfired. But it's not like Dilfer went on to bigger and better things. We likely end up in the same position at QB the following years when Dilfer gets injured or doesn't perform.
But that 2001 season was still an epic letdown. Jamal, Searcy, Grbac crying...LOL. Headed into training camp I didn't see a possibility where we didn't repeat. But it just goes to show you how quickly seasons can crater once the injuries start piling up.

I was at that Jacksonville game as well, and the Chargers game, and the playoff game against the Broncos (I remember freezing half to death and not caring!). The whole Dilfer thing just felt awful to me. I understood the mindset, and Grbac was coming off some big seasons. Like you, I just couldn't see them not repeating, but then Jamal went down, Holmes was gone, and they had zero run game. Jason Brookins. Terry Allen. Yikes. Grbac wasn't awful during the regular season, and he did win a couple of games with his arm. Randall Cunningham managed to salvage a win against the Browns as I recall as well. After they crushed Miami in the first round of the playoffs, I was feeling pretty good though. I thought there were going to whip the Steelers, but we all know that didn't happen, and wound up with Grbac crying in the fetal position after getting beat around and quitting football. That was just so embarrassing. You have to wonder if Dilfer would have gotten them through that. It's not like Grbac's production was really anything special, we coulda gotten that from Dilfer, I think. You're right though, there was more about Dilfer that wasn't entirely known to the public about his injuries. His arm was apparently shot.

And the wind during that playoff game was insane. Still one of the coldest games I've been to. I think that Cunningham game was at Pittsburgh. IIRC we lost both games against CLE in 2001. (looked it up, yeah. The loss at home was the Grbac crying game.) Dilfer benefitted from Jamal and Holmes for the most part. I doubt he could have put the team on his shoulders and beaten anyone, much less Pittsburgh that year. I can only imagine what it would have been like to have Jamal, Searcy and a Grbac who didn't have to throw 30-40 times a game.

I knew we had something very special that year when we beat the Jaguars for the first time. They owned the Ravens up to that point. When we won the game against them I said, we're going to the super bowl

I still remember walking out of the JAX game and the crowd was cheering and chanting the whole way to the light rail. It's a sound and feeling I'll never forget.

They greatest defensive line in NFL history that SB year, despite those who don't think so. The defense and Matt Stovers leg won that entire season and that Super Bowl The offense wasn't as horrible as we have been conditioned to believe. Yes, they had a horrible 5 game stretch but we had the #5 rushing offense and a middle of the road passing offense. Half of our games we scored 24 or more. In 4 games we scored 34 or more.

It was the TD-less streak that really hung the offense out to dry, statistically.

Exactly right. Everyone was crowning the Giants offense as being some kind of juggernaut, and Shannon Sharpe astutely pointed out that the Ravens actually scored more points during the season than they did. That TD drought gave the offense a pretty bad rap and might have even helped them in a sense that the offense got overlooked at times. That bad rap carried over to the 2012 championship team too. Can't tell you how many times people say "Oh Ray Lewis and the defense carried them to that title", ignoring the fact that the defense was middle of the pack (ranked 18th in scoring, 17th in yards, I believe) and that Flacco and the offense carried them that year.

Thank God for Elvis Grbac and Kyle Boller😳🤣
Remember when Jimmy Harbaugh was the Ravens QB for awhile after he left the Colts?
