I recently watched this 4-part documentary on Amazon. First episode is free but the remaining 3 episodes require a free trial of Sundance, which I signed up for and then canceled when I was finished. It's also 5 years old so it's been out a while if anyone managed to catch it when it first aired.
I had always been aware of what happened in Jonestown, I read the Wiki articles about it, and it was horrible but there is nothing like seeing someone recount their experiences there and what they saw at the end. It was one of the most difficult and disturbing viewing experiences I've had.
And it put a lot into perspective for me in terms of throwing around the cult word. Jonestown was obviously a whole other level of cult worship but there were some very eerily similarities between Jim Jones and certain political figures of today.
Anyway, after viewing the documentary I believe all the children (over 300) were murdered and it seemed like almost half the remaining adults were murdered as well. This wasn't all just mass suicide. Many went willingly. Many did not.
I highly recommend checking it out.

One thing I only learned recently was Congresswoman Jackie Speier took 5 bullets in the final shoot out. I'll check this doc out. It was an era of cults and cult followings. The trump era has brought cults back into popularity. Another horrifying one on the subject of cults is Netflix: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wild_Wild_Country
