Starting to develop balance issues here. 71 next month.
Anyone have any experience or wisdom with this issue?

My grandmother developed them to the point where she was regarded as a "fall risk". Apparently there is a checklist of risk factors for that, one of which (unsurprisingly) is having fallen. Age is another and so are a number of medical problems. She was advised to use (in order) a cane, a four point cane and finally a walker. In her case the problem was worsened by certain medications she had to take for other problems; she was on so many medications they eventually did a full re-evaluation of that and took her off a few. I suggest you consult your doctor about it. If the problem is related to your labyrith (structure in the ear that reports body position and orientation to the brain), then you may need to see an ENT. I can recommend Andrew Goldstone at GBMC, he helped me years ago with a problem my regular doctor could not address. He's a bit out of your way but he's good.

Just found out yesterday that this issue appears to be the result of a lacunar stroke that happened sometime in the past. More tests to follow.

Having a stroke is a risk factor for future strokes as I am certain you have been told. So are certain underlying medical problems. Stay well.

Little overweight, but have a workout regime people half my age can't do. Appears to be just one of those things.

Balance issues continuing. Up in New England right now for a funeral, but on return to MD, get to take part in comprehensive balance testing...a full 45 - 60 minutes of texts specifically designed to set off vertigo. Can hardly wait. MD also mentioned fair possibility of a "mass" resting on the ear canal, so MRI after testing. Who knew getting old was so much fun?

I don't know about fun, but getting old is very much the point and the plan - so stick to it. Hope it's nothing major and the tests go well. I know I certainly don't have the kind of balance I had as a younger man, which leads me to avoid working from ladders around the house like I once used to do.

A little bit maybe. lol A few times. Worst was 8 - 10 clockwise chair bound spins with quick stop. My head then thought it did a number of spins in the other direction - without the chair moving. Damn near broke the armrest on that one.

It might be late in the game for this but it is something I need to start doing. There are work out regimes specifically designed to improve balance and overall agility. The whole intent seemed to be to create conditions that caused the imbalance and then avoid them. Duh. Been doing that since I had the first issue. Hitting the gym tomorrow. Will let you know.

On the other hand, I'm neither a doctor or a physical therapist so what do I know?

Just to close it out. Looks like it's Meniere's Disease, one of those "well, we think you have it, but there is no real treatment for it" things. If I start posting in circles (at least, more than normal), you'll know why!
