Lets see, riding bikes to FRIENDSHIP Intl, sneaking under fence by the old Benson House, then sneaking inside a old B-25 parked in the back forty and playing Sky King. Never damaged anything, just played. Playing football most everyday in winter, baseball everyday in summer. Playing in woods, playing with fire and cutting trees down. Walking RR tracks looking for Coke bottles, 2 cent deposit. Baseball cards were 5 cents with a huge wad of gum inside. Yeah, lot simpler back then and we made our own fun. Malls like Harundale were still a novel thing but one could always get model airplanes or chemicals for his chemistry set. I remember that plane, but they had not put the fence up yet. I almost got caught playing there! Imagine a major airport like Friendship without a fence around it! You could walk right out onto the runways! I grew up near Crain & Aquahart, so Harundale was close! I saw JFK when that mall opened.

This would be circa 1964 ish on the planes. Right off Rt 170 extended, the unofficial official dragstrip. Perfect 1/2 mile straightaway. On the north end it would turn into Poplar Ave in Ferndale. I played a LOT of sandlot ball by the Benson house.
If you saw him there that would have been 1958 (that's when it opened), probably campaigning. At that time even Glen Burnie was a sleepy little town with a few car dealerships on Crain Hwy. Ameche's didn't even make it until 1960 or so.

kids who would work in the summertime or after school? I guess that school "participation awards" are a liberal substitute for learning responsibility suitable for their later years. The reward I got in the summer was 40 or 50 bucks under the table working at the TV repair shop at Ft Mead. I loved it! ZAP!

Well since volleyball wasn't competitive with other schools maybe so. I wrestled, absolutely loved it... as long as I could stay eligible academically for the county and state tournaments.

County Mounties had no problem finding bright red 60 Impala convertible with 6 youts acting like aholes.

Motherhood changed a lot of my habits.

Primary school - age 5-11 Secondary school - age 11-16 Further education - 16 + Higher education (college, universary, etc) 17+ Prior to this system we have 'Nursery school', (kindergarten) pre-school, playgroups from 3 years on, these schools are not mandatory.

Our youngest started school when she was 1. She went 3 days a week then when she turned 2 she went 3 days a week. Now that she has turned 3 she goes to school 5 days a week
