What's one thing you miss from your childhood? Fond memories but not around anymore. Food, toys, a car, restaurant, store....

What's one thing you miss from your childhood? Fond memories but not around anymore. Food, toys, a car, restaurant, store.... Playing football (soccer) in the street with tennis balls, and the drain holes as goals. Riding on the back of the dustcarts. Exploring the old bomb sites and bomb shelters. Puffing sneaky fags behind the bike sheds. Ah! Halcyon days, and always sunny, as I remember.

Watching my father build things in his basement woodshop.
"Helping" my grandmother make egg noodles and/or bake cookies.

So much fun, at least 20 of us running all around our neighborhood! What is a dustcart? Maybe what we call a go cart? We used to smoke too... anywhere away from the parents!!

Hamburger Junction - a restaurant where a toy train delivered the food to your table No way! Where was that?? We have a lot of sushi train restaurants in Australia. The conveyer belt/trains go around with plates of sushi on them and you pick up what you want to eat, they are usually on different coloured plates for different pricing. At the end you take your empty plates to the cashier to pay.

I wish I could go back and see what places looked like before McMansions and townhouse developments were built.
I also wish I had been able to eat at Haussner's.

My parents took me there in 86 for my 17th bday! I only went the one time but they made a big deal out of what a special place it was! I wish I had a better appreciation back then.

That's where I saw my first nekkid lady. I accidentally wandered into the bar and it was a painting on the wall. We used to stop by there every Sunday and my father would pick up a pie for my mother.

Lets see, riding bikes to FRIENDSHIP Intl, sneaking under fence by the old Benson House, then sneaking inside a old B-25 parked in the back forty and playing Sky King. Never damaged anything, just played. Playing football most everyday in winter, baseball everyday in summer. Playing in woods, playing with fire and cutting trees down. Walking RR tracks looking for Coke bottles, 2 cent deposit. Baseball cards were 5 cents with a huge wad of gum inside. Yeah, lot simpler back then and we made our own fun. Malls like Harundale were still a novel thing but one could always get model airplanes or chemicals for his chemistry set.

In the summer, my mother would pack a picnic and we would drive to DC. We would eat lunch on the mall and visit the museums.

Hanging out in the woods, always being outside with my friends, walking to malls like Harundale and Jumpers. Swim Team and spending every day at the community pool as a kid!

That's one place I could never tire of. Need to go back, it's been years. The little A-4 has my name signed in a J box in the wheel well. Both the AF museum in Dayton and NavAir museum in Pensacola are well worth the time and ride.

Standing up on the back seat of the car when my parents travelled anywhere. Or in the way -back of the station wagon with the rear window down. Not quite as good as being in the open air bed of the pickup but we didn't have a pickup truck, only a Ford Country Squire station wagon.

Sadly yes, the "wood" paneling was fake vinyl decal. But it had a 390 V8 and retractable hidden headlights, very cool car. It looked a lot like the one in the Griswalds movie when they go to Wally World.

It looked a lot like the one in the Griswalds movie when they go to Wally World. Yes, they were smooth riding land yachts, comfortable with no cornering capabilities. Unlike nowadays they were distinct from each other. One could tell the difference between a Galaxy, Impala or Fury. From the mid 50's through early 70's cars had style. Now.... boring Japanese designed Euro box looking for the most part.
At least performance is back in certain cars, amazing what they can get out of smogger engines.
