I know that I'm a bit of an old grinch sometimes but I don't understand this cookie baking thing. I'll bake most things, I'm pretty adventurous in that department but cookies (biscuits), a stroll down to Lidl's or Aldi's and I can buy all the cookies I need for practically less than the cost of buying the basic ingredients needed to make them.

What I wouldn't do for some of my grandmothers kolache, I had the recipe but it was way out of my league, very labor intensive. It can be bought at stores but it doesn't come close. Maybe I can con wife into tolhouse.

I rarely bake cookies. I think last year my daughter and I made Linzer cookies and that's it. The cookie baking party is just about getting together with friends to enjoy some adult beverages, listen to holiday music and have some fun. Now I can agree with that. I do still make a Christmas Cake (rich fruit celebration) each year, but I gave up making mince pies and sausage rolls some years ago.

I only bake cookies at Christmas! It's a Christmas tradition for me, for years I used to spend a couple of days baking with my Mom. One batch makes a good amount of cookies and it's a nice gift for neighbors and co workers.

I attended a friend's "Wine & Cookie Bake" festivity last evening. I brought Snickerdoodle dough for baking. He made 16 types of cookie dough. Crazy man. lol AND,he really thought we would be able to decorate a few of them (Gingermen and something else). Has he met us?? It was very fun and we all came away with two to three boxes of a great variety of cookies. (Which are going to work with me on Tuesday.) That does sound like fun. I went to a cookie party a few years ago. The host had us all bring a bath of our favorite cookies to share and we had to print our our recipe to share with everyone. We paired them with different wines. It was a lot of fun!

We paired them with different wines. It was a lot of fun! That's how most cookie baking parties I've attended have been planned. We each bring something to bake. As I quietly explained to a couple of people there,he was trying to recreate something that he and his recently deceased Mom used to do every Christmas holiday since he was a kid. Just the two of them. All of those batches of cookie dough was something she would make because she gave cookies as gifts to neighbors and co-workers. His husband wasn't making the connection and thought he had lost his mind. lol Unfortunately, he may have figured out that he can't recreate a memory but maybe create a new tradition with her in his heart. It is tough to try and recreate a memory. For my BIL's 60th, I made him a Jewish apple cake using his Mom's recipe. While he LOVED it, I'm sure it wasn't the same. I also took the recipe that was in her handwriting and had it framed for him. They used to cook a lot together and I know he misses that.

The last day of school was yesterday so I had my 3 year old helper helping me bake. We made oatmeal coconut cookies with M&M's in them and a Yule Log (What a PITA that was)
