I went to The Bygone in the Four Seasons on Friday. Great views but fog rolled in and you couldn't see anything below. It was actually kinda cool to see. Drinks are $16-18 so it's a special event kinda place but it's cool Baltimore has a place that would normally only exist in DC. Ray Lewis was there, he got off the elevator as we were going up.
After that, we went for a drink at The Elk Room which is a "speakeasy" style bar in the Bagby building. The entrance is unmarked. It's nice inside but nothing special.
I much prefer divier bars with cheaper drinks but my wife loves these kinds of places.
I was at Nick's in Cross Street Market yesterday. Food is good, the place is always packed before games but I they are closing next week. What a shame.

I think dive bars are going the way of the Dodo around Baltimore. Canton and Fells Point were Yuppiefied and Hampden was Hippsterfied.

If (and that's a big if) we go to a bar, I prefer a "dive" bar. People are less uptight, drinks are cheaper and always a good time!
Sad about Nicks, I've been there a few times and always had a great time!!

This is my favorite dive bar in Florida. www.riversidecafe.com/ A country and western singer named Jake Owen hangs out there.

I’m at Nicks at Cross Street Market. Today is the last day. I’m going to miss this place but I don’t understand how they can close. This place is packed!

It's more like a neighborhood type bar, a place where you know a lot of people. Ever seen Cheers? Kind of like that. Nothing fancy schmancy where the drinks are outrageously priced.

We had a couple of neighborhood bars where I used to live, we referred to them as "dives". They weren't rough, definitely a place you could take a lady.

Out of interest, what actually does a 'dive bar' mean to you? Check out Guy Fieri's Food Network show, "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives". Guy has had personal issues, but the show is legit.

That's a misnomer. Fieri rarely visits drive-ins and dives. Almost all of his shows are about diners or regular restaurants.

Love this show, I have even been to a few restaurants he has featured. I've never seem him cover a "dive bar". Is that what you were saying?

I've never seem him cover a "dive bar". Is that what you were saying? Not dive bars, per se, but divey places in general. He did a segment on Faidley's in Lexington Market. From experience I know that shady characters, transients, peddlers, beggars, and druggies are in or around the market on a regular basis. I've seen other tv spots in Wilmington, De. and Atlantic City. I don't know for sure whether the featured spots have a similar atmosphere to Lexington Market, but parts of those areas sure do. I don't think it's in anyone's best interest to point out specific spots as dives on his show, but the prudent person will always exercise due diligence when exploring new places for entertainment.

I recall one in Pasadena, MD... Stoney Creek Inn.. I was surprised they did this one, the food is not very good and the service is terrible... and yes, I consider it a dive. I guess it wouldn't be in the shows best interest to actually call these places dives.
