Isn't Portugal's economy still in the toilet? I suppose it wouldn't matter if you are wealthy.

Isn't the Algarve served by Faro Airport? At least, it was when I holidayed there the last time.

Twice a year for 10 years! IF I had any Money you know it would be LV but that will always be a Pipe Dream for me. That Icon with me there with the Girls was like my 3rd or 4th time there back in my mid 50's. For 10 years me and my Gambling Buddy would fly out there one week in the summer and one in the winter. Just 2 old guys out there up to No Good! Always rented a car and I know that city like the back of my hand now. Been to almost Every Casino out there from the Strip to Downtown, out to Red Rock, Sam's Town, Green Valley Ranch, the "M" Resort, South Point, Orleans, Palace Station you name it we got around to them. Hell, we had Dealers & Pit Bosses that Recognized us when we came back every 6 months! I was there for my B'day that one week in the pic. It was Summertime and I was downtown staying at the Nugget and sitting at a $5 Pai-Gow Poker table at my Fav place at that time, Binion's when they used to have the tables right by the doorways and you could play and watch people going by out on Fremont. Was just sitting there playing, enjoying the Hell out of myself, the Beer Girl would come around with my refill for a $1 chip. I just looked around and Wished that God would just hit me with "The Big One" right then and there so I could Die Happy! At that moment I was Happier than I could ever dream of. There I was, doing what I liked to do, where I wanted to be without a care in the world. Unfortunately I'm still around, and I'm Here and now in my 60's it just Stinks More almost every day and you know Nothing is gonna get any better. Made what was likely my Last trip there back in Dec. '17. Just don't want to deal with that All Day Travel Ordeal going out there and back anymore. Flying out on Sunday and coming back on Friday you really only get 4 full days there. I can Drive to AC in 3hrs flat in my own comfort listening to my tunes or audiobooks in my car and have done that Dozens of times. I don't need any Maps I know my route by heart. Yeah I know all around AC just like LV, it ain't the same but it'll have to do. This Getting Old stuff just Sucks!

Sorry, I misread your post, I thought that you were referring to the Algarve region (a long way south of Lisbon), Looking it up I see that the Cascais region is a little west of Lisbon, I am not at all familiar with that part of Portugal.

I know this will be a bizarre post for some of you.
But does anyone know of a Senior Living 'place' that caters to couples that like the outdoors. Someplace that has shooting (trap/skeet/target) or hunting or fishing as it main attractions. I am not a shuffle board kinda guy yet. But I am getting tired of wasting most of my time screwing with the house and property maintenance.
Thanks in advance. Guido

Well there are stlll plenty of states to do that...Heck even here in MD. What I was referring to was a place ….similar to the many golf orientated retirement places...that you get up...take a shower...go to the dining hall have breakfast....go hit a round...find out a leak happened in the bathroom...pick up the phone fix it...have lunch...go play a round...celebrate happy hour....get dressed have a nice dinner with the mrs'es. Except substitute golf for what I mentioned. I found only one so far....and it is WAY above my pay grade. But thanks!

There's a shooting course in Lehigh Valley like that...you don't live on site like you would a golf course but you could be a member. I went there last year, it was a lot of fun. But otherwise, I haven't seen that kinda thing. Most people like to do that stuff on their own property.

Truth is having seen more of the world than most could imagine, NW Tennessee is very appealing. 30 acres of mountainous hardwoods, clean air, no neighbors and a 2500 sq foot log home is very doable for 250K. Drawbacks would be shopping and lack of medical facilities. Since the advent of satellite TV, radio and internet one can have his cake and eat it too.

When I moved out West my plan was to buy a bunch of acres in Southern Oregon and build cabins throughout. We'd fill the cabins with retired stoners and combine our medical growing licenses then hire a kid to tend the field. Tuesday would be pizza night. I figured that would be the ultimate retirement community. Things fell apart quickly when we got there and discovered the climate, while sounding pretty good on paper, was bone chilling wet.

I have started looking there, Delaware and PA. But my wife has/was dragging her feet in the effort. Said that 'she didn't want to leave our neighborhood friends'. And I get that. Well that changed....our two best friends announced they were planning on leaving soon. And one made it 'official' the other day.

Considered buying a house with a pool this week. Wouldnt have really set us back for retirement or anything but we decided against it because House was really small. Plus I want to retire ASAP.

The big question is how close is ASAP? You might consider buying a place where you might want to retire...buy it....and then rent it out till you are ready to really retire and move in. You can use the rent to pay of the mortgage in the meantime and then sell the home you occupy now to cover the balance? That 'had' been our plan ...but...life intervened...my FIL move in with us, needed a lot of help for over 8 years...and followed by my open heart surgery almost immediately after he passed ….and welp here we are. Not complaining.....just a case of 'the best laid plans...etc.

So a month in Curacao, a month in Cartagena, Prague, Rome, etc. and then we come back to our townhouse. Not sure I wanna buy another place. Too many places I still wanna see.

Oh geez...based on that you are barely out of Pampers. 😄 Your rent plan is solid. We did that too. But life intervened. Stay the course...good luck.
