Although I am not a "senior" I guess I wonder why I sleep so much on the days I don't have to get up and go to work.
For example, during the week I get up at 5 and it's not easy. I work 7-3 and try to go to bed by 10 at night.
On Friday nights, like last night, I was asleep by 11 and slept until 9 am today.
Do you think this is normal? What are your sleep sessions like whether you are working or retired? Do you find that you do require less sleep at night?

I usually retire ~ 2~00am and wake ~10:00am. Some mornings I am up ~7:30am, if I have bowls roll-up to attend. I'll often nap for an hour or so in the afternoon as well.

Huh that's not very much sleep. Has it always been that way? I'd say that I usually sleep around 8-9 hours a day. Basically, if I'm tired, I'll sleep, any time of day or night. I am, however, very sedentary, partly due to ill health.

I'm like my 3 dogs, I sleep half my life away. I'll crash out between 3 and 5 to be woken by wife bringing my coffee in bed at about noon. Maybe I'm a latent vampire?

Thanks, but the treatment and drugs have kept me going for the last 14 years, and hopefully for a few more yet. I guess that I'm fortunate that it is all paid for by the NHS, I dread to think what it would all cost me if it wasn't.

I rarely sleep more than 6 hours and can probably count on two hands the number of times I've slept more than 8 hours - assuming I wasn't hung over.

Ha ha! I did it again last night; slept from 11 pm until 9 am today. Tomorrow back to reality with my 5 am alarm. Have a good day!

During the week I'm usually asleep by 10pm and wake up at 4am. On the weekends it depends on what we have going on, usually about 7 hrs.

Routine, you get used to whatever your Schedule is. All week I'm used to hitting the sack by around 11:00 and am up every AM at around 5:00 automatically or a bit earlier maybe 4:30 or so without an alarm clock. On weekends I may stay up a bit later but still get up early. Your Body gets used to the Routine. My Avg is about 6hrs sleep.

My sleep pattern is fairly consistent. Sleep between 10:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. and wide awake between 5:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. even on weekends regardless of whether I have a "late" night - wide awake no later than 6:00 a.m. This morning it was 5:30. If I sleep later it's one of two things: Exhaustion or illness. I was sick for a couple of weeks ago and didn't wake up until 8:00 a.m. on a Sunday! lol If I slept until 8am, I would feel like I missed the entire day!😁

I average 7 1/2 hours every night. I go to bed between 10:30 and 11 and get up between 7 and 7:30 every day.

Most likely it means you are tired, perhaps because you do not get enough sleep at some times and accumulate some sleep debt. But... if this is interfering with how you want to live your life it might be severe enough to warrant mentioning it at your doctor's visit. There are a few medical problems that have this as a symptom.

For those of you that have signifigant others. Are your sleep patterns way different?
Even before retirement I begin to fade at around 10:30pm and even without an alarm I am waking up at 7am. And I am wide awake immediately and moving the entire day. I take a nap maybe once a month.
My wife on the other hand struggled while working to get up for the work day. Now that she is retired, she is up till 2-3 in the morning and gets up at 11am. But don't talk to her till 1pm. Unless you have a death wish. 😄
Anybody else have similar. Just curious.

My mother at age 85 is up until 1 or 2 am and sleeps until 10:30 or 11 am. she's quite the oddball compared with her girlfriends.
