... or know someone who does, you should read the study: www.ischemiatrial.org/ischemia-study-resultsThe short version is that intervention (the placement of stents, chiefly) in cases of stable heart disease may not be better than controlling the disease with medication alone. What that means is that, absent symptoms, you should push back (ask why) if a cardiologist suddenly decides you should have a stent placed or another interventional procedure performed, particularly if you also have kidney problems. IMPORTANT: THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO EMERGENT CASES, SUCH AS HEART ATTACKS IN THEIR EARLIEST STAGES. IN SUCH CASES THE PLACEMENT OF A STENT CAN OPEN AN ARTERY AND RESTORE BLOOD FLOW, PREVENTING CARDIAC MUSCLE DEATH, IF PERFORMED QUICKLY ENOUGH. It only applies to stable heart disease without new symptoms.

Thanks for posting, I am aware of the thoughts on this issue. My cardiologist has been telling me for the last 3-4 years that she intends to put in a pacemaker/defibrillator, but not just yet, she says that she'll put it in when, or in her opinion, just before it is necessary to do so. Which reminds me, I have my annual appointment to see her on Friday.

I expect in the next year or so, I'll get a valve replacement...and they'll throw in the pacemaker as a door prize.

I have a cow one which, when I got it, was the superior one to get. 8 years on and it's running well. The mechanical one hums and is annoying I'm told. I have AF from time to time which maybe is tachycardia? Anyhow meditation works as well as the drugs. Getting the charge is the best but you have to be in AF when they do it.

I'm getting the charge (cardioversion) in 10 days. Seeing as how I have been in constant AF for several months I guess they won't have to wait for an optimal moment.

If you've never had it done it's quite easy, you won't feel a thing and the drug they give you has to be one of the weirdest. You'll be able to relax once again when it's done. I'd tell you good luck but it's a cinch.
