Downloaded it today. Amazing what they can do with CGI nowadays. Problem is I think they took a lot of it over the top. Way too many planes doing impossible maneuvers way too close together and loads of AA and Explosions all over the place. It's not Star Wars for crying out loud! They crammed everything from Pearl Harbor on into it. Aside from Woody Harrelson as Nimitz, Dennis Quaid as Halsey and Aaron Eckhart as Doolittle I didn't recognize anyone else in the film. Bottom line is though they did pay lip service to the true story they just ran through it all way too fast. The Midway (1976) film though it did have some "Cheese", was more historically accurate. Bottom Line is though I already knew almost everything about the events leading up to the action after Coral Sea before it (read Pacific Crucible and other History) this flick didn't really do much for me. Oh I'll keep in in my extensive war movie collection but Emotionally it doesn't really do anything much. I watched it but didn't care about anyone in it one way or the other. Looking in Wiki I saw that it rated just under 50% and only made a bit more than it cost. Worth a watch if you don't know anything about WWII. A keeper if you're a war flick buff but that's about it. OK but not Great.

If you're a reader, Herman Wouk's "War and Remembrance" (the sequel to "The Winds of War") devotes a section of the book to the tactical decisions that went into the Battle of Midway - and some of the dumb luck involved that eventually led to an American victory. I highly recommend both IF you have the stamina to plow through two, one-thousand page books...
