Nicole and Jimmy LaCugna both grew up with a strong Catholic faith. Each attended religious education as children, married in a Catholic church, and sent their first son, Nicholas, through a faith-based pre-K program. So when their second son, 8-year-old Anthony, reached second grade last fall, he was on track to receive his first Holy Communion in April.
But just days ago, the couple learned Anthony would not be allowed to receive the sacrament at St. Aloysius in Jackson, the church the family has attended for years. The reason given by the church: He has autism and is unable to express the contrition the church requires before receiving Communion.
Thoughts? As a non-believer, I don't put much stock in the Sacraments of the Roman Catholic Church. Is a sacrament something you just do, or should there be conditions behind it?

For Anthony, and also for it's own sake, I hope that the RC church reconsiders its position.
A Catholic church that drew sharp criticism for denying a boy with autism the chance to receive first Holy Communion this spring has reversed its decision after apparent input from the Diocese of Trenton.
But the boy’s parents say it is too little too late, and they are continuing to look for another Catholic parish.
The Rev. John P. Bambrick, pastor of St. Aloysius Church, originally decided last week that the boy, 8-year-old Anthony LaCugna of Manalapan, could not take part in the First Communion celebration scheduled for April.

Sprightly: It is between 28-44 days max. I don't know that 44 days at the earliest is necessary. Having said that, we will know when a large number of people do or do not have a reaction at 44 days.

Sprightly: WKDWZD - Here, the second Moderna vaccine is given at 28 days or so after the first. Three of five people I know who received their second became quite ill some 36 hours after the injection. Fortunately, the flu-like symptoms only last less than 24-hours.
