My dog Max (beagle), 11 years old last month, has for a few months now been having problems (still unidentified by the vets) with his nose and throat and he his sneezing and coughing far too frequently, he has also now been found to have a heart murmur. On top of all this, this last week, he has gone blind. It's breaking my heart to watch him trying to cope with it all. He could really use some prayers and strong vibes and help right now. Thanks in advance.

Are you kidding? Despite rumors to the contrary, God is a dog Man. He tolerates the cats, the birds, the lizards, the fish, but God is a dog Man. Indeed, while I don't want the responsibility of caring for one, I can't imagine Heaven without pets.

Prayers for Max. Keep him as comfortable as you can. You will know when it's time. Sorry.

Poor Max. Animals don’t understand why they’re feeling bad, that’s the sad thing. Sending a prayer for your family.

Thanks guys. I don't think that Max has any physical pain, and hopefully he can learn to cope with his loss of sight, I also hope that Mrs. W and I can learn to cope with the heartache of watching him try to cope.

One thing is for you and Mrs. W to learn not to move any furniture such as footstools or other small objects that may be in his path. My cousin's dog was blind and that was the biggest problem that they had to overcome - not moving objects on the floor.

All the best for Max.
I recently lost one of my cats, Gracie. We figured she was about 18, but lived a full life after she moved out here to the wilds of West Virginia. Her older companion, Gus the deer hunter, is over 20 and still active, but has certainly lost a step or two.
Prayers for all our furry friends that bring so much joy and love into our lives.

Prayers for Max, I know you'll take very good care of him. Hope the vet can diagnose the other issues and find a medication that will help.

When I first posted Max had lost all close sight and most of all periphial, sadly now, just a few days later he is totally blind, he doesn't even see light and dark. At least now we know what we are dealing with and trying to cope with it as he is. My studies tell me that he has become a victim of SARDS. He is now very positionaly confused at times and yet he is clearly learning steps, watching him testing and negotiating them gives me hope that he will eventually be able locate his position and direction better. At least he knows where his food and water bowls are. His sneezing and throat problems are still there but we can't do anything about them until the lockdown is over and the vets are properly operating again. Thanks for asking.

Wish I had more clinical stuff to offer beyond what has already been suggested by others to somehow help, but I don't. All I can do is keep talking to our angel pets when I pray, to help him as best they can.

I'm sure that Max will learn the stairs and navigating around the house and yard. Everyone was always amazed at how my cousin's dog walked around the house and up/down stairs as if he wasn't blind. Prayers that the sneezing and throat problems are only minor.

I'd like to thank you all for your kind comments, thoughts and prayers. Sadly Max's many problems became too much for him, and he went to the Rainbow Bridge today at 1:20pm.

I am so sorry for your loss, our pets are family. I remember when you posted on OM after you got Max, seems like only yesterday. We lost Sadie almost 7 months ago and still miss her so much, hopefully she and Max are playing together waiting for us to come play too.

Max's time on this planet was just 11years 1 month and 10 days. Sadly his last few days were not good ones, but the rest were absolutely brilliant, he gave nothing but love and dedication and asked for nothing in return, well except for food, food, and food. (he was a beagle after all). my only comfort is that he is now at peace and distress free. I can fully feel your grief and loss of Sadie, and yes, I hope that they are playing together, Max was friends with everybody, he didn't have a bad bone in his body. I so do hope that I will see him again. Thanks for your kind words, they have helped.
