Facebook, and the businesses who use it for marketing, rely on data tracking to target users with personalized advertising. The social media company, which makes almost all of its revenue from advertising, warned investors in August that Apple's software changes could hurt its business.
The privacy change was announced at Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference in June but is delayed until early 2021. During the event, Apple teased how a user would be shown a prompt asking if they want to allow tracking, warning that the data would be used for personalized ads.
Apple has repeatedly attempted to position itself as a defender of consumer privacy, describing the changes in September as stemming from its belief that "privacy is a fundamental human right." Facebook, which has been criticized for its data privacy practices, is attempting to position itself as a defender of small businesses, many of which are grappling with the fallout from the pandemic.
"We're standing up for small businesses everywhere," the ads states. "Many in the small business community have shared concerns about Apple's forced software updates, which will limit businesses' ability to run personalized ads and reach their customers effectively. ... These changes will be devastating to small businesses, adding to the many challenges they face right now."
People should be able to choose whether or not they want to be Tracked.

Yes, Facebook is doing this to help small businesses just like tax cuts for the rich are to help small businesses.

As bad as Facebook is, Apple makes them look like choirboys. Literally the most vile of all tech companies. I'm always amazed at the woke hipsters who love their Apple products. They have no clue.

I'm a Mac guy myself so I'm a bit triggered While I agree that Apple is at least as guilty as Facebook when it comes to collecting loads of Data from users, they get some credit for being more transparent and attempting to make it more difficult for their products to be Hacked (compared to Windows or Android) or for user data to be unwittingly shared with apps like Facebook.

Well a lot of Apple's lack of being hacked is because hackers didn't feel like bothering with something that was only 5% of the PC market. Android isn't a company, it's an open source operating system, so not really a true comparison.
Apple has historically been a ruthlessly proprietary company, which is something that led to the their downfall in the PC market. They've also been notoriously shady when it comes to the iPhone, despite the iPhone being the thing that saved them from extinction.

So it’s comparable to Windows in that way. Market Share. I’m not saying Apple’s business practices are great for consumers. In fact in a different thread I criticized how much they charge for some of their products.. Just noting that being more open about privacy and data monitoring is a Plus compared to most other tech companies. I personally prefer Apple computers and iphones due to quality...

Their computers are only better quality than the run of the mill Dells and such, and way more expensive.

The computer division of Apple should have as their marketing slogan "You can buy better but you can't pay more"

I use both Windows and Mac OS pretty frequently (Macbook Pro for personal use and Windows for work) and just prefer Apple for stability and quality. I agree however that their products are overpriced.
