I had some local tomatoes at the beach this past weekend and my goodness were they delicious. Just EVOO, salt and pepper. I picked some up at a farm stand on the way home and had some more this morning. So good.

They cannot be found anywhere else on Earth that good. I would do anything for a crab cake on a plain roll with a Maryland tomato.

I have found that tomatoes (or produce in general) grows best in volcanic soil. The tomatoes I've had grown on the side of Mt. Etna or in Santorini are the best I've ever tasted.

But they are also dressed in high quality vinegarettes and the Greeks do manage to grow a cucumber that won't upset the stomach. Not sure how they grow a good tomato in a region that doesn't get steady regular watering. My money remains on any Delmarva grown variety. Centos is an excellent canned brand of tomatoes for home.

My local produce nursery had Eastern Shore tomatoes last week. I bought a few - they were beautiful. The owner came out and handed me a huge tomato and said that he is giving it to me because I had to try it. He was right - it was the best tomato I think I've ever eaten - straight from a farmer on the shore. Actually, I ate too many tomatoes that week and ended up with ulcers. But it was worth it! Like the OP said, just salt&pepper - but I also made a Caprese salad - fresh mozzarella, basil, and light drizzle of olive oil/vinegar (in my case). So good. I need to get more.

Unless they're going in a sauce, throw them in the trash.

I hate cooked tomatoes. Yuck. Yes, including sauce. lol Do you eat pizza? Not with tomato sauce if it's up to me, and definitely not if it's dripping in it, but I have had a slice from time-to-time. I like pesto, white sauce, and sometimes just olive oil. I don't eat pasta with any red sauce ever. And tomato soup is disgusting and I can't eat it. No, I don't grilled/roasted tomatoes either.

He will eat tomato sauce, ketchup by the bucket, any type of cooked/grilled/roasted tomatoes but will not touch a raw tomato.
