Hey, someone had to start it. I'll begin by noting that several rolls of seats are being removed from left field so that the wall can be raised and pushed farther back. From the pictures I estimate this will result in a loss of 750 - 1000 seats, relatively poor ones, in exchange for making a park more pitcher friendly. www.mlb.com/orioles/news/orioles-push-back-camden-yards-left-field-fence

Poor seats?
Those seats they're removing were awesome.
I used to split a season plan in section 82, first row.

Those seats and bleachers were my favorites when I went to games.
Haven’t been since 2017.

Evidently players not on the 40-man roster can use team facilities. A number of Orioles up and comers (we hope) will be reporting to development camps next week. More advanced players first, rawer players a week later. Per Kubatko. Players like Rutschman will report next week. Teams can, and apparently do, monitor the social accounts of players who are locked out. One wonders if teams suggested certain players post regularly to their socials prior to the lockout. Millionaires arguing with billionaires about splitting the revenue stream. Enough to disgust anyone not in those clubs.

The Orioles have announced their minor league staff. Those interested can find a lengthy School of Roch column about that here.

I've just never been less interested and it makes me sad. Hopefully, I'll be pleasantly surprised but I'm not expecting much out of this season.

I don't expect them to compete any time soon, and I rarely watch or listen these days. The games are usually painful to witness. I am not sure whether ownership even cares about winning. They may have decided if they can put a team out there that is good enough to sell tickets to fill the stadium halfway, they'll be satisfied. In a division with two wealthy, big spenders and a sport that has no salary cap, that might be the best they can manage.

According to Bob Nightengale, via Twitter, owners have accepted universal DH and eliminated draft compensation for draft picks. Manfred will announce official delay of spring training later today (01/10/22)

Owners will make a "good faith" proposal on Saturday. Manfred not yet ready to delay spring training. Says on the basis of 2020's three week camp that league sees a minimum of four weeks ST necessary to avoid injuries.

So I was looking at Jordan Lyles, the SP the Orioles signed last December. He led the league in HRs allowed. No wonder they're moving back the LF fence.

Yeah, that sounds like an Orioles signing, in this era! What I've read about moving the fence is entirely statistical. That is, their metrics guy told them to do it, and they did it. It is really a surprise they were willing to pay $7M for a starting pitcher in a year they clearly do not plan to compete (again).

I think about three seasons worth is about right. 😀

Owners and labor met again today. They are aiming to have some kind of agreement in place by 2/28. This would allow the regular season to begin on time. No details available - which might be a good thing, since leaks are an important part of moving the public in the direction of your camp. A lack of leaks means both sides *might* believe they are close. What we learn tomorrow should be instructive.

No ex games until March 7 at the earliest. If they cannot agree by tomorrow the lockout will begin trimming away at the season, likely by simply canceling early games (i.e. they won't throw away the schedule and make a new one even if trimming games means teams have unequal numbers of games versus division opponents, for example).

The players have unanimously rejected the owners' "best and final" offer. A delay in the season seems likely now.
Kubatko has tweeted that the first two series of games will be canceled, and that new negotiations will not take place until Thursday at the earliest.

Manfred essentially said, "If we could dictate the terms of the contract, the season would start on time." What an asshat.

Spring training now canceled through 3/18. If Manfred keeps a consistent position this means the regular season could not start earlier than 4/18, give or take depending on what he meant by "a month". Of course, if the owners put pressure on him for a shorter spring training he will fold faster than the Flash on laundry day, so...

The Orioles are permitting fans to watch minor league workouts at Ed Smith Stadium and the Twin Lakes facility. These men could be from any level of the minors. There will also be minor league exhibition games at Twin Lakes, again, from at least A, AA and AAA levels.

The lockout is over. They will, somehow, play a full season. Free agency could begin as soon as this evening. From various tweets.

With the lockout now over, the O's may experience a slight uptick in attendance than was expected during the lockout itself...

I had no idea they were changing the dimensions. I’m definitely on board. Feel like a lot of O’s pitchers were too tentative in their approach for fear of giving up a cheap HR to LF.

The team has made a bobblehead of Cedric Mullins, who was in the 30/30 club (HR/steals) last year. Fans who attend the August 5th game will receive one.
