The Republicans are dysfunctional, which is what the people who back them financially want. Wealthy individuals who prefer a government that can't stop them from doing anything they want, any time they want, to anyone they want.

There is no back bench in Fascism. All the oxygen flows up to the Leader. This is what republicans have voted for. They broke themselves. Surely theres enough of these unicorns called moderates that can side with Dems to keep America going? Or does trumpism end in a titanic system failure taking all of us with it?

Quite the choice. A Trump cultist who did nothing to stop a sex-abuse scandal and a savagely anti-gay Trump cultist.

"David Duke without the baggage"
Scalise's self-description.

"David Duke without the baggage"Scalise's self-description. He's certainly no prize. Has he denounced the Big Lie yet? I can't find a citation. There's plenty that report he's down with the insurgent line that Biden was sworn in as president but like the rest of the bag of snakes refuses to acknowledge Biden won fair and square.

Democrats should thank God daily they don't have this to deal with.

Democrats should thank God daily they don't have this to deal with. She needs to keep the "American people" out of her mouth because she doesn't speak for me. She can speak for that idiots in her district who voted for her, that's it. And imagine being lectured by someone who lied about vaping and giving handjobs in a theater where there were kids, and then having to admit she lied when there was video of it. Hopefully we're rid of her real soon.

For those of you counting at home, the person with the most committed votes for speaker is Jeffries (D-NY) with 212

I assume that Mace made some sort of deal with Jordan for her vote and can be convinced to vote for Scalise if she gets something in return for her vote. Not sure who else is holding up the Speaker vote. She said she can't vote for him because she just found out about an event he spoke at 20 years that was sponsored by David Duke. Here a few others with various reasons:

Suspect in the end Scalise will display sufficient fealty to the cult leader to secure the votes.

House convened and immediately recessed today, guess he’s still trying to nail down the votes.

"David Duke without the baggage"Scalise's self-description. Only in Republican-land would this be considered a good thing.

Seems to me that the GOP House is afraid to bring this to the floor in case it dissolves even further into chaos and with the fear that a unified Democratic caucus could suddenly throw their weight behind a moderate. That is the ultimate answer - a relatively moderate republican who could garner more than 110 GOP votes and then enough Democratic votes to put him/her over the 217 mark. It would be unprecedented by these are unprecedented times. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2023/10/12/steve-scalise-house-speaker-race/

Hopefully Americans are paying attention as to what happens when today's GOP controls the House. Probably not.

"David Duke without the baggage"Scalise's self-description. Accepting the 'lack of baggage' depends on which flag you raise in your front yard. IMO.

Scalise is out
So does Jordan win by being the last man standing or does a new candidate emerge?
