The Republican party is currently a great big fluster cluck. I would not care except that I am so very tired of this clown car. There are very decent, good people in the party, but they are overshadowed by the mouths. I really need them to straighten their spines and fix their crap. The basket (those to whom Hillary was referring) have their hands firmly on the GOP's tiller and there is no sign they will be dislodged any time soon. Are the good, decent people afraid to do what they must to rid themselves of their bad actors, or are there too few of them? I don't know. And it may be academic.

I hate to say it but much of what has been said negatively about Republicans has turned out to be true during the last 8 years.

I hate to say it but much of what has been said negatively about Republicans has turned out to be true during the last 8 years. They’re having an ideological civil war or identity crisis. The pro-Trump faction of the GOP and a the more old school conservative faction can’t reconcile their differences on some major issues and that’s largely what is preventing them from coming together to elect a Speaker.

Well they can't say they weren't warned. We called this since the beginning. I bet the Republicans who were anti-Trump but gave in and became stooges are regretting it now.

Especially spectacularly wrong. I have Republican friends who held their noses and voted for Trump--oh he'll surround himself with good people--who are smart enough to realize what a dumpster fire the Trump administration was--they simply don't want to talk about it now.

The answer is obvious, cut a deal with the dems, put forward a sane republican who can garner a 109 GOP votes and at least 109 Dem votes and move forward. That means giving the dems floor votes on some of their key issues and for the Dems it probably means coming toward the GOP on immigration.

What's going on is the party, and now the house, is being held hostage by an extreme minority who would rather tear everything down than face the reality of governing when the opposition party controls the Senate and the White House.

Indeed. I had a bad feeling about Trump because I knew even then he was an egotist, and people like that usually surround themselves with yes-men. They depend on that affirmation. I took the first election off and should have voted for Hillary, much as I disliked her. I certainly voted for Biden even though he wasn't a good idea in my view - and about the only person I believe he could defeat was Trump. If Trump runs again I will vote for his opponent.

That is the only moral, ethical, competent choice available to anyone. Caligula may have elevated his horse to the Roman Senate but at least his horse couldn't craft policy.

Stop making crap up... it is the moderates, not the extremists, who have a problem with Jordan as speaker. Jordan played a key role in the insurrection, has been accused of covering up sexual abuse, and is a horrible choice for speaker. Mike Lee is a moron You're MAGAhat is showing

It looks like sanity might prevail
Assuming that the challenger actually is sane and moderate, the Dems should throw their weight behind him/her

Looks like Jim Jordan has secured 124 votes which gives him the majority of GOP members but is far short of the 217 he needs to become speaker. Also interesting to consider that a majority of the GOP House thinks that a guy accused of covering up sexual harassment of high school wrestlers should be 2nd in line to the presidency. Correction - 152 is what I am now hearing Well, considering the sexual escapades of the previous president, it is not a bug, it is a feature. I do thoroughly enjoy the mental labyrinth that those who supported an impeachment against Clinton have to go through to support Trump, who has (apparently) done far worse, far more often.

What a radical concept. It would be unprecedented and it appears that a lot of GOP holdouts are falling in line for Jordan but we'll see what happens tomorrow. I argue it is exactly what the country needs and we'd actually see bi-partisan progress on a lot of issues.

Think about it this way If Jordan wins he'll be the second GOP speaker in the past two decades to be involved in a scandal involving the same sex molestation of high school wrestlers en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dennis_Hastert

And they say it's the leftists who are the groomers. yeap I think it is more than a truism that if, the GQP is accusing you of something. They have: -already done it, -it's in motion and we just haven't heard about it yet, -planning how to do it, -or thinking about the possibility of doing it.

So Jordan
-ridiculously gerrymandering district -has never sponsored a successfull bill in the House. -force behind the never-ending and fruitless Benghazi hearings -implicated in OSU sex scandal -player in attempted insurrection
Well why wouldn't the GOP select him?
