Not a fan of this at all. But hey, rich guy needs a parcel of land and an arena to build a generic overpriced "sports complex".

Not really a fan of either team, but I can see how this will polarize the fan base for sure.

A friend of mine is having a complete meltdown about the Caps moving. I have never known anyone to enjoy hockey as much as he does.

It has nothing to do with that. I've never felt unsafe at that arena.
You can try to shift blame and empathize with the poor billionaire, but this is simply a case of trying to score the most public money and investment as possible.

The Mayor offered money as a final offer to spruce up the place. Crime has increased in the area. It may not be the reason but its happening.

Why take city taxpayer money to fix up an existing arena when another state will offer far more taxpayer money to build you a new arena and give access to all kinds of new development. This is what John Angelos wishes he could have.

Otherwise who knows with those two.

Crime may have been worse recently but with more crowds and police presence on game days, there is less a chance of crime. How many times have you been mugged coming or going from a Ravens or Orioles game? Take that away and it could accelerate the problem. Still isn't why they moved, though.

Fox45 (shocker) did their best over the summer to blame attendance at OPACY on crime. Of course they completely ignored the correlation between putting a winning team on the field and attendance. The Orioles attendance has increased 600k/year over the past two seasons since their 110 loss season and I'm sure it will increase again this year.

And violent crime is down in Baltimore. On pace to be below 300 murders for the first time since 2015. Bet Fox45 isn't going to give that much coverage.

Like others here when you don’t like the content of an article you claim it is biased media. Without any proof, of course. Can you point out any factual inaccuracies in the articles I linked too? No, you can’t. Is NBC News in D.C. right wing media? The Washington Post has an article on crime and the move but it’s behind a paywall so you’ve got an excuse to discount that. Is the AP right wing media? As I said before, you assume that because crime hasn’t happened to you in the area surrounding the arena it must not be happening to other people. That’s like saying that because someone in Kansas has never experienced a rip tide, no one has experienced a rip tide.

Well with the population plummeting there are less people to kill I kid I kid. Why wouldn't Fox45 cover it? They are a local, probably liberal group of newscasters.

The teams will play at the arena for the next 3-5 years or so.
Guess people are going to have to endure carjackings, robberies and murders to see their team play in person.
The sacrifices of a sports fan.
Some people on this thread are scared of their own shadow.

If there is police protection anywhere, there is police protection near a sporting event. As dangerous as I regard Baltimore, I wouldn't fear the vicinity of Camden Yards or M & T. *Getting* to those places might be dicey, but once you're there you're safe. Crime isn't likely the problem. Leonsis got Alexandria to pony up: tax incentives, cash, a team-friendly lease, something. And off he went.
Passion or gain. Those two motives describe 98% of what motivates people. Once, passion dominated. These days, with unrestrained greed practically become a covenant of worship, gain is moving into first place.

I've never said crime doesn't exist, but it's blatantly obvious this move is about money. And your right-wing opinion pieces in your previous post tried their best to solely place the blame on Democrat policies and how the poor billionaire had no choice but to take a nice $2 billion gift from another state.
