OK, let's try this. Which polls do you trust? I don't put much stock in polls. But for the thing you posted, I agree that the media has bias. But it was framed in a way that it's just the "liberal media" with bias protecting Biden. A whole lot of the spectrum is being ignored. Well, let’ see. You don’t think polls are accurate. “What's the definition of accurate? I don't think polling companies are making up numbers, but how they ask questions and who they ask is susceptible to bias”You don’t trust polls. “I don't put much stock in polls.”And you think the media is biased. “I agree that the media has bias.” So other than your own personal experience what do you base your opinions on?

Common sense is good. For example, while I know that crime is a problem in DC including around the Capital One Arena, I know the record arena subsidy being provided by Virginia is the only reason Ted Leonsis is moving the team to Alexandria.

Do be honest I have become totally disenchanted with pro-sports for a while now. Yeah yeah, I know it's a business blah blah. But the money being moved around from STATE TAXES. To placate the owners is way out of wack.
How is it, everytime you open the paper, there are cutbacks for Social Services, more rules to make it difficult for the poor to get help etc. The cry is always 'Well their just isn't any money'.
BS. They ..... and I mean not just Baltimore/Md but most any major city or state......have plenty to throw at big business and sports and don't even blink an eye. But don't have money to get somebody a decent meal and a place to stay.
But then, giving some poor slob a hand up doesn't garner votes. Big shiny stadiums and a 'home team' does..... at least in some people shallow minds.
Same holds true for our damn election cycle costs. Millions if not Billions are being given to, shifted, put in PACS again without blinking and eye. Yet, those that are giving those millions and billions bytch and moan because they are being taxed and OH MY GOD..... that money might actually HELP people.
So so so much wasted money..... on way way way too many that have too much money already. Disgusting.

Professional sports is the only industry whose owners, with the full connivance of politicians, get taxpayers to underwrite their facility costs. It is always about the money when teams move, regardless of what owners say.

Went to the Caps game on Saturday. Seems like a complete waste to scrap the Capital One arena as it seems to still be in great condition.

I get why stadiums and arenas outlived their usefulness in the 1990s, when modern amenities started to become normal. But with the ability to update and refurbish current arenas has never been better. I mean, the Baltimore Civic Center is still alive and kicking and just underwent a massive overhaul. Surely they could have done the same with the DC arena. It really just comes down to greed, and people willing to give billionaires whatever they want.

Looks like the move is dead for the moment.

To really finish the sentence "so those people will eventually get a payback down the road from those billionares. " Can anyone spell PAC or 'political donation'? 😉

Well OK here is something(s) I think worth pondering. - They say it is going to create xxx new jobs. Fine. Now tell me how many xxx jobs will be lost if they move to a new venue? So you are robbing Peter to pay Paul? - Virginia is going to have to float bonds to pay for this new venue, right? To pay for those xxx jobs to build it? So why couldn't DC float bonds to refurbish the present venue..... which should be way cheaper. BUT also include in the bonds allocations to the police dept. etc. to get the crime down. -now tell me, getting bonds to pay for bringing crime down and keep the teams and a refurbished nice venue, would fail? I dunno, seems like a win win to me. Oh and did I mention re-using what we got (the old venue) instead of tearing up what little open space is still on the east coast?
I dunno, bottom line to me is that ALL POLITICIANs are way to cozy with business...... from tax credits to new stadiums. And btw, this is not just high level state government. Right here in BaltCo there is a 'war' going on about who taking away the County Counsels power to regulate when and where something can an cannot be built.

Looks like the move is dead for the moment. That's fiscally smart on behalf of Virginia taxpayers, who really ought not be expected to endow making a wealthy man even wealthier. If he wants to move the teams and fund it himself then more power to him. No tax breaks or sweetheart deals, please. Sports owners don't need that kind of help when the shabbiest clubs are worth close to a billion and the best clubs considerably more.

Well, so much for Virginia. I guess crime wasn't the reason they were moving...
Glad they'll be staying in DC.

Leonsis used Youngkin to put D.C. government and her taxpayers over a barrel. Shameful.

Leonsis used Youngkin to put D.C. government and her taxpayers over a barrel. Shameful. I think Leonsis wanted the new arena with all the subsidized trimmings. Virginia legislature didn't play ball.
