It is good progress, and I hope it continues. They next need to get the carjackings under control.

Congrats to the city. Have they determined why it happened ..?? Could one be they weeded out the weaker drug dealers and no one has taken their place.

I've heard suggestions it was from community activism to federal government investigating COVID fraud.
Probably a lot of many different things.

I suggest you read the Sun from the last few days to get a backfill on what has been implemented by Scott and his vision and implementation of such things as reaching out and solving problems that force people into crime. Now, that was a 'political announcement' of sorts. Now I truly like to believe that his initiatives are making an impact. However, I tend to wait till next year or the year after ..... with similar numbers before I say, 'yup it worked'. Sorry, I am cynical. I tend to look at numbers and statistics and frankly, I figure that the trigger pullers previously that drove the numbers up for so many years are in jail or dead. So their offspring is just starting to mature. Again looking at the numbers, they are on the JV squad starting with a dramatic increase of car jackings. I guess we shall see. I do hope I am wrong about the JV's and that Scott's efforts are working.

Maybe some of those 1/6 MAGA insurrectionists stuck around since they liked breaking the law in DC so much. See, I can be like Steve too.

The DC thing is super alarming, given that the city is largely gentrified now. The bad pockets must be *really* bad these days.
Good news about Baltimore, and nationally though. Like Guido, I'd like to see if it continues, and what the cause may be. Hopefully it is Scott's policies doing good work.

Hopefully, this encourages those who have not stepped into Baltimore City in years to do so. I feel like they are missing a lot. I will continue to visit D.C. as well.

I was just in DC the other day with my in-laws and grandchildren. Visited the museum of Natural History. Our Smithsonian museums are a collective jewel to drop in and visit so close to where we live. Next visit will be to the Library of Congress. I'm sure like any other city, there are areas to avoid, but overall I didn't feel unsafe with my grandchildren at the Mall in the heart of DC. Same with Baltimore - my son lives in Mt. Vernon with his wife and dog. We dine out there every week. Both cities offer a lot of experiences not found in the suburbs, and it makes me hopeful that more people will take advantage of our local cities.

The pandemic hit Mt. Vernon restaurants (and others) very hard. Some of them did not reopen at all; others cut back the hours they are open for business (no more lunches). But the good news is that new restaurants have and are opening in Mt. Vernon and downtown. Up2 is right. So much to see and do in cities.

I've heard suggestions it was from community activism to federal government investigating COVID fraud. Probably a lot of many different things. Let's give Ivan Bates some credit. He actually believes that people should be held accountable for their actions. Now if Baltimore can only get rid of this Vincent Schiraldi clown things might really start to improve.

Good call on Bates. I don't listen to WBAL but it was on in my car for a second and they were talking about this and the host was giving credit to Bates. I am unfamiliar with Vincent Schiraldi but if you have some evidence he is part of the problem, and not this improvement, I'd be interested to see it. With juveniles, there's only so much you can do legally.

You can read about him here.He appears to be one of those soft on juvenile criminals, bleeding heart Liberals. Combine his philosophy with that of Jill Carter and you have a prima facie case of why juvenile crime is on the rise in MD. Both of them oppose any change in the law that would address the issue of "With juveniles, there's only so much you can do legally.".

While I disagree with his ideas on supervision and parole, crime did decrease drastically under their first year in office. Not sure if they deserve credit for it, but the results are inarguable.

It is good progress, and I hope it continues. They next need to get the carjackings under control. I think it is fair to say that long ago, people used horses for transportation and that was changed to cars. Is that not correct? So, that said, back in the day, is someone stole your horse, or the cute term 'rustled' your horse. If that someone was caught back in the day, we all do know what the end result was. No long discussions, legal proceedings. Just a tree and a proper length of rope. Bring that back and car jacking stops within hours. Kidding.... but not.

I am not willing to endorse the death penalty for a property crime (in general, I oppose it). But they do need to punish offenders and take that crime more seriously. And as an aside: be careful. When you start discussing hangings, particularly without due process and particularly in this context, you are tap dancing on a land mine.

But, you verified my point with the second bolded line. As I stated, I am willing to give people ...... especially 'kids'....whatever a kid means nowadays a chance or break even after multiple offenses. But I think it has to be obvious to even a blind person that the excuse that these 'kids' after several run in's with the legal system have to be corralled and separated from normal society.

Vigilante hangings for carjacking would no doubt reduce carjackings, but criminals would then engage in other crimes. Contrary to social myth, criminals don't specialize.

Yes they would, they always do. Question really is.... to me; Of all these criminals, what percentages are there around: - Had to go into crime because they had nothing else. - Had to go into crime because of a shock, loss of job, illness. - Went into crime for either of the other two. And decided they like it, either financially or mentally 🤷♂️ they just thought well 'I found my dream job'.🤷♂️ And then of course, even the tainted, the accused, the convicted, and pardoned we have witnessed.... like the criminals are no different.

I used to! But they are hard to get these days, particularly if you want certain other features. Almost no high end car is made with a manual transmission. I do not favor capital punishment, as I have said. But when Singapore wanted to cane an American for breaking its laws, I was okay with that. Some people don't learn unless it hurts.

I learned to drive on a manual but I haven't owned one in 20 years. Traveling to Europe and renting a car, which is usually a manual, is always fun.
