This morning a HUGE flock of geese flew over the house heading north. Then, my husband saw another giant flock go over the golf course a couple hours later! (Yes…close to 60degrees…time for golf) Someone told him they saw robins already.
And tiny bird chirping could be heard out back today.
Warmer weather, no frozen ground…climate change?

I have several bird feeders outside my windows. Since pretty much around Thanksgiving all I have been seeing are lots of wrens, cardinals and pigeons. And a few random woodpecker species. Yellow belly sap suckers for one. (Yeah I'll never understand that naming). In the last week or so I have been seeing a marked increase in titmice, nuthatches, red and yellow finches. And we just started seeing female redwing blackbirds and some robins hopping around. Hopefully spring is on the way.

Warmer weather, no frozen ground…climate change? LOL. Seriously? Were were the cries of climate change when we were a steady 10 deg below normal for over a month? Or when the southwest was getting feet of snow? C'mon man. 20 years ago I kayaked in the middle of February when it was 80 degrees out.

So your anecdotal evidence during an occasional above average temp in March is better than mine? LOL Like I said, where were you during Jan and Feb when it was 10 degrees below normal most of the time? Oh, right that's climate change too. Are you trying to say you've never seen geese fly north in March? I've seen that many times throughout my lifetime.

I’m saying that I myself, my husband and others have noticed these things this year particularly. I live very near the Susquehanna, Havre de Grace is a popular spot for migratory birds. We see this stuff.

It’s a fact. Deny what? Climate change? I didn't deny it. A warm couple of days after two months of below normal temps and some early migrating geese fooled by it aren't evidence of it. That's also a fact.

Only on these forums can people get into a peeing match because someone noticed the birds seem to be back early this year.
Shhhhhesssshhhhh 🙄😄

That's not to say that the climate isn't changing - it is - but when you see how things get spun (looking directly at you, Weather Channel) to advance a narrative, it's hard not to call it out when you see it. Literally every weather event is being touted as evidence to support it, and whip people up into a frenzy. Heck, doesn't even have to be a weather event anymore, lol.

Those are some mighty ridiculous words you’re using for this benign topic.

I will never say that man is not causing the problem I will never say that this is caused by the natural progression of things that have existed for eons. I will say that it is perfectly possible that both are in play. We can't change the natural progression. But we can try correcting what we can control.

Is not feet of snow in the Southwest abnormal (or shall I say a "change from the usual") climate?

I sort of wish some of that global warming part of climate change will show its effects over Ukraine right now so those tanks and heavy armored personnel carriers get stuck in a lot of mud. The sooner the better.

Well if anybody actually decides to swing back to early birds.
I have noticed, especially when the temp gets over 58, that there are insects flitting about in the air. This has been going on for a few weeks.
I only brought that up because I noticed a real drop off of birds at the feeders. The feed that lasted 1 day now is lasting 3. But as I mentioned, we are getting new birds....and the same birds...lots.
I am thinking that the bugs are out the birds are filling up on that instead of seed.
Just related.......but idle thoughts. 😵

My husband came in the house about 1/2 hour ago and said that he saw a bunch of geese flying north and thought it was kinda early for that to happen. I cracked up laughing. He now says that I'm officially crazy.

So I don't know if the formations I see are 'snowbirds' or locals taking a 'walk'. But I have seen some v's. Ironic..... I spent all sorts of time and money hunting and hardly ever saw something to harvest. Yet, the best hunting is literally in my front yard. Deer, duck, geese, raccoons, possum.... you name .... it is here. I have even seen coyote and fox..... a lot of foxes. And all I can do is watch. 😫😎

But I have seen some v's. Geese aren't a reliable indicator of much anymore. This goes back to from when they got "stocked" and it wound up creating hordes of resident birds, or birds that have different movement patterns. Not sure who thought stocking geese was a good idea. They are annoying nuisances and complete jerks.

Why leave to find feeding grounds when people come down to the banks and feed them...... all the while bytching about stepping in geese poop. Why fly when everything they need is right here? Duh.

Its going to warm up the next couple of days and will fool the flowers into coming up. Happens just about every year now, we get a few warm days towards the end of winter and the tulips start blooming.

Speaking of geese. We have a huge flock in my neighborhood year-round. They live around the pond at the side of the road. Just about once a week or so they take a stroll across the small street, but busy (the only way in or out of the neighborhood), and let me tell you, they are defiant. lol I have caught the stroll a few times and they don't reverse, but do back up traffic for several minutes. It's cute but I've sat there before with other drivers blaring their horns for me to go. I am not going to run over geese, people. But also, I don't feed them.

Today's temperatures, and those this coming week, are warmer than typical but they are not outside my experience. I am not prepared to say climate change is their cause, but at the same time I believe climate change will be a problem within the next generation's lifespan. Probably not within mine; I haven't got more than a couple of decades left.
