Stop looking at yourself in the mirror ..... I don't sit in a bar all day by myself. I have a job, Snarky Steve... Wow....a job where you can post almost 24/7. What is the company name.....do they need a Cyber-sec-tech-lead. I'll come out of retirement. šø

So you know for a fact that they aren't texting friends of theirs who are not present. My sister-in-law and I have done exactly what you are describing only we were texting my other sisters-in-law not each other but I guess you would have assumed we were texting each other. I think you are making way to big of a deal of this. Fine...whatever... Yeah, whatever! Just because I don't complain about the youth of today, I'm making too big a deal of it. HaHaHa

How do you know who these kids are actually texting? Are you leaning over their shoulders, reading their phones? I was in a restaurant in Nashville and saw a couple ladies texting during dinner, unlike you, I didn't assume that they were texting each other but friends/relatives who were not at the restaurant with them. Beings they were facing each other and OBVIOUSLY conversing electronically with each other and giggling about it, it was pretty easy really.

Obviously, with smart phones and texting becoming more popular, you're seeing worse drivers and people who are walking around looking at their phone. I mean people are literally walking off cliffs because of their phones. I feel like I am honking at more and more people not moving when the light turns green, even in the last few months. I see lots of drivers looking at their phones while driving. People from teens to mid-40's or so. That is something past generations haven't had to deal with so it's a legit complaint.
Aside from that I think all the other complaints are us just getting older. There has always been contempt for younger generations. Always. It's not the annoyingness of the generations that changed, it's you.

Not so much a complaint but more of a concern:
I don't kids of today play outside as much as we used to. I know many are involved in sports (my kids were) but the ones that are not concern me. I just don't see kids playing outside like we used to.

Well, as long as they remember what the sky, trees, sun and water look like we have hope that they will want to see it one day. I have never seen Fortnite, now that my boys are grown they really don't do video games anymore.

Kids today are becoming obese little pigs, glued to their smart phones, not unlike their Millennial parents. Hell, some Millennials are so lazy that they pay someone to mow their little patch of lawn, and god forbid if they even thought about making one of their tubby kids do it... I weep for the future. When's the last time you watched a large group of neighborhood kids having fun, riding bicycles and scooters, playing some sort of sport involving a ball in their own neighborhood; or even taking a weekend job, mowing lawns, delivering papers, or shoveling snow in the winter? Good luck with that these days.

Generational Ships, Star Trek touched on them in one episode. I read "Rendezvous with Rama" by Clarke years ago. Wasn't that thrilled with his sequels though. Really got to be a Larry Niven fan with Ringworld and the Known Space series. Not much into his other Magic stuff though. Got about a Ton of Paperbacks from a bunch of authors and some MP3 Audiobooks. I really gotta sit down and Re-Install Kerbal Space Program on my PC!

It is natural for older people to assume the younger generation is less civil, less polite, etc. Teenagers of any era are generally less polished than their more mature elders. Personally I think a lot of it has to do with people being less tolerant as they get older. The same kids you are complaining about now will be making the same complaints regarding people 30 years younger in 30 years. As predictable as complaining about their music...

Don't deal with "The Public" much. Thing that gripes me most is peoples' Driving. They should put speed cameras everywhere! Seems like no one drives the speed limit but me! Lane changes like they're trying to pass on a Nascar track. Going straight from marked right and left turn only lanes. People should have to go through a Driving Test every year they Renew. Last accident I had was back in '96 when a little old lady hit me in the ass. Last speeding ticket I had was back sometime in like '82! My record is Clean!

Nah, I was the guy silently cursing the guy in front of me! I save my more vocal cursing for the guy in the left lane who refuses to pass the truck to his right!
