My life will change so much when I retire next year. I'm selling everything here and moving back to Australia. I think I want to live in a town called Lakes Entrance where I actually don't know anyone. My brother and his wife have a house their but they only go there a couple of times a year. That's awesome! Congratulations!! Lakes Entrance looks beautiful from the link you shared. Maybe you can stay at your brothers until you decide!

$350 for a week stay at a resort. The catch is they have very limited resorts and dates for that price. There are other resorts for more money. Check it out at www.afvc.comWe've used this a couple of times, but were always limited because of work, but... I RETIRE NEXT TUESDAY! so I expect we will be using it more often. Best part of retiring? When I was military, we couldn't afford much traveling and neither set of grandparents were that involved in our kids' lives. This set of grandparents is changing that dynamic! I intend to volunteer at my Church and to take up my passion of writing. We want to sell the house and get something much smaller so we are not bound by four walls. And I have to tell you, Mrs MOTR has put up with a lot of nights when I was at work. For 45 years she has let me put my career first. That ends now. We are totally different grandparents to our newest little one. We have 2 grandsons in their '20's and now a little granddaughter just 22 months old. We are definitely in their lives a lot more than our parents were in our kids lives. I want to sell the house but some family member keeps needing a place to stay and we end up with them. Your last sentence sounds like my husband.

What's the best part about getting older? Retiring? Grandkids? Slower pace? Traveling? Volunteering? Getting smarter

I tried retirement for a month....couldn't take the boredom....really meant I wasn't ready to make everyday Saturday....going to give it 4 more years and try again.....new job is allowing us to travel now versus waiting for "tomorrow".....will volunteer when I break my addiction to a paycheck....already enjoy the grandkids w/o being retired....

The best thing may be the longer perspective age can provide, the experience of having seen somethings before, of knowing, this too shall pass.

The word that you are looking for is 'wisdom', and I wholeheartedly agree, age certainly does provide us with wisdom ... however, how we each use that wisdom is, of course, an entirely different matter.

It's wonderful when you find your true love and best friend in your spouse. Enjoy your retirement with your sweetheart.

One nice thing about getting old enough to retire,
I didnt, and get to spend my social security on cruises.
I still enjoy my work, still healthy enough to do it.
So I take off some more time to enjoy more time with Dear Mrs.

The worst part is now when getting on public transportation and seeing the signs, seats reserved for seniors and people with disabilities and knowing I now qualify for both.

That's awesome, I plan to travel as well. A nickels worth of advice, Start as soon as you can.Kind of interesting you say that. After my father passed and we would visit my Mom ….watching her slow deterioration when we visited. I remember one thing she said and I will never forget.
Don't worry about the house ….the chores...the perfect lawn....it will always be there...enjoy each others company...enjoy life..travel...do fun stuff.
Unfortunately for me....my dear wife was out of the room when she said that. 😂 So the honey-do list keeps growing. 😝

LOL... we were out to dinner a couple of weeks ago and there was a note on the menu... 15% off for seniors (55 yrs and older). I said, hey... just a few more years for us!! He didn't think it was very funny!!

Lowe's and Home Depot both give 10% vet preference, I DO use that pretty often. Trees at Lowe's this year are INSANE, the 10% didn't amount to making me feel better.

I stopped shaving 14 years ago, the day I retired. I just trim my beard and moustache every 3 or 4 days now.
