I've been blessed with good family genetics so - aside from the daily aches and pains - I still think of myself basically as a 40 year old in a 70 year old body. Yet I really don't want to be one of those old farts unable to part with their last vestiges of youth. The late screenwriter/author Bud Schulberg once wrote that - in hindsight - he never should have treated his youth as a career, but rather as a preparation. I always kind of liked that statement... Some True-isms: When I was young I was called a rugged individualist. When I was in my fifties I was considered eccentric. Here I am doing and saying the same things I did then and I’m labeled senile. – George Burns First you forget names, then you forget faces. Next you forget to pull your zipper up and finally, you forget to pull it down. – George Burns If you need more smiles: famousquotefrom.com/george-burns/“If I had known I was going to live this long, I'd have taken better care of myself!” ― Mickey Mantle

I have, since my retirement, become a rather avid fan of the afternoon nap!

There's a best part to getting old? Outside of the Over 55 page of a diner's menu not much comes to mind. I suppose you get less excited by small stuff. Things seem a lot stupider than they used to. You are generally the last person still observing things. Everyone else has their head sucked into their phones, tripping over curbs. I guess that's good. Sorry to be a downer but growing older basically has very little to recommend it.

As I age, I find myself turning back to things that really matter; family, faith, avoiding stress. I find myself trying very hard not to get mad at the driver in the left lane doing 40, or the person incapable of using a blinker. I try not to get upset at the service provider who doesn't want to be there and doesn't care about staying. I think i have gained some perspective that I would have liked to have had 30 years ago.

Sunrises.
Sunrises are now met slowly, with peace, in an easy chair rather than while rushing to the car, with a cup of instant coffee, while getting ready to join thousands of other rushed people heading south on 270.
Definitely sunrises.

By choice. I retired 15 years ago. Never been a nighthawk. Even when I was younger, by 11:00 PM, I was done!

By choice. I retired 15 years ago. Never been a nighthawk. Even when I was younger, by 11:00 PM, I was done! Same here never been a night-owl.... 10:30, 11pm I am ready for bed. Then up early. Now my wife on the other hand..... 2am is early for bed for her...... as is having morning coffee at 11. Probably part of the reason why we never had kids.

Actually, it's probably the reason why you are still together, each getting a few hours of your own time everyday. It certainly works for me and Mrs W. 😀

You only need 15 minutes of common time to have a kid. 8 minutes if you are young...

Small victories become pretty enjoyable. We've had the same checking account for 42 years. Came within $2 of balancing today, having not balanced since 2012!

Best part, living the dream beyond my wildest ever thought, I own and live on a small part of the beautiful Clinch River and Mountain........ worst part, these damn knees, if I'm to get on the floor I need something to pull myself up on. Climbed almost to the end of my property on the mountain once, now I'm satisfied to atv down to the river and hopefully get a nice catfish for dinner. No license required! It's a lot cheaper than people might think but you have to be willing to live 7 miles out on a dirt road. When the Jan and Feb floods come have gas and a generator and you're fat like a rat. The river will crest over the road for 3 days at a time. Long way from Baltimore! How'd you come to end up on the forum? Did you feel yesterday's earthquake at all?

Kind of interesting you brought that up. I have lately wondered how WKDWZD happened upon these forums.
