What's the best part about getting older?
Retiring? Grandkids? Slower pace? Traveling? Volunteering?

What's the best part about getting older? Retiring? Grandkids? Slower pace? Traveling? Volunteering? All of the above? I've been retired for several years now so the thrill of not getting up for work every morning has kinda warn off somewhat. My oldest grandkids are in their 20's so I was working when they were little. My youngest grandkid is only 22 months old and since I'm retired I can watch her a couple days a week which I love doing. We can't afford to travel as much or as far as we would like but we gone away for a week at a time using Armed Forces Vacation Club. I do spend a lot of my time at my church now volunteering.

What's the best part about getting older? Retiring? Grandkids? Slower pace? Traveling? Volunteering? I wouldn't know. My wifes honey do list keeps growing no matter what I do to catch up. …..no grandkids....but the rest...there is always some damn thing to go around the house...so neither of us has even touched on any of that stuff. Pretty much for me....H ey honey.... I found this nice piece of property in (X)...maybe we should look at it. Sure ...but first we gotta do ….(fill in household chore here). My FIL died about 5 years ago his damn bed is still in the dining room...another on the list. If you think I sound frustrated...your damn right. I figure when we finally caught up on all this crap....I'll keel over and die. This is retirement? I am thinking of going back to work to relax. 😡 I sometimes marvel that while we were both working how we managed to not have the house fall down around our heads.

Never heard of Armed Forces Vacation Club, good deals? $350 for a week stay at a resort. The catch is they have very limited resorts and dates for that price. There are other resorts for more money. Check it out at www.afvc.com

If you're lucky, they have sales where it's $299 for the week. We got one of those in Orlando.

Next summer we are planning on towing the whale to Mt Washington, NH with the 3 mutts on board for who knows however long. Another luxury of being retired, War Dept. can do her online teaching while we drive. Life is gooooood!

Yeah well that's somewhat of a sore subject that I lost. She REALLY wanted one so I'm stuck as the designated driver. I got the garage extension and car that I wanted.... so I'll humor her. She "thinks" it's camping but nothing like I remember!

No, we just act like we lose, those aren't REAL knitting needles we shove in our eyeballs, just 10 penny nails.

Never going Camping again! Went through 4yrs of Boy Scouts & 2 more in Explorers, All Seasons, All Weather. In Scouts our troop had a weekend "Hike" one weekend a month on one leaders property somewhere up past Rocks State Park and then the whole Week two times in the Summer at Broad Creek Scout Camp. We even camped out on Assateague Island once where I remember we got eaten up by mosquitoes & flies. Explorers was rougher with canoeing down the Potomac or Monocacy and camping the night wherever we found a spot on the river. No Thanks! I'll stay in the Best place & rooms I can afford on my budget which believe it or not really is pretty small.

Definitely retiring. Seems I always had something about work running thru my mind even as I was trying to sleep. Don't miss driving to work (or home from work) in the dark either.

Never heard of Armed Forces Vacation Club, good deals? $350 for a week stay at a resort. The catch is they have very limited resorts and dates for that price. There are other resorts for more money. Check it out at www.afvc.comWe've used this a couple of times, but were always limited because of work, but... I RETIRE NEXT TUESDAY! so I expect we will be using it more often. Best part of retiring? When I was military, we couldn't afford much traveling and neither set of grandparents were that involved in our kids' lives. This set of grandparents is changing that dynamic! I intend to volunteer at my Church and to take up my passion of writing. We want to sell the house and get something much smaller so we are not bound by four walls. And I have to tell you, Mrs MOTR has put up with a lot of nights when I was at work. For 45 years she has let me put my career first. That ends now.

My life will change so much when I retire next year. I'm selling everything here and moving back to Australia. I think I want to live in a town called Lakes Entrance where I actually don't know anyone. My brother and his wife have a house their but they only go there a couple of times a year.
