I've prepared asparagus a number of different ways, but my preferred method these days is to pan fry it - medium high/covered - in a mixture of heated butter and EEVO for 5-6 minutes.
I like the asparagus to have a slight crunch to it while retaining the butter flavor when it's finished - then I sprinkle a splash of salt and the juice of a halved lemon over it. Done!
People have told me not to use the EEVO/butter mix together when preparing asparagus - "use one or the other" they say. "Steam it and don't worry -add what you want over it afterwards" is another one. "Wrap it in tinfoil with EEVO and grill it - add the frills later" - it seems everyone has a preferred method for cooking asparagus.
Ms Maggie's asparagus extravaganza with goat cheese and puff pastry was different but generally, I don't mix asparagus with other items like rice & chicken, etc - I like it fine just as a side. Comments in general?...

I grill it on my grill pan with a tiny bit of EVOO and salt. Once it's a tiny bit charred but still crispy, I grate a little Parm over it.
Steaming asparagus is just an insult to asparagus. Might as well eat it from the can. lol
Oh, and no, I don't like it mixed with other things.

I am OK with asparagus. I'll eat it but I won't be happy about it. My wife loves it. We prepare it the way livinghappily does it. Grilled, or roasted in oven with EVOO, S&P with parm or maybe a little balsamic. I like it a little more well done...otherwise it feels like eating a weed tree. And it makes your pee smell.
Much rather have brussels, broccoli or green beans roasted or grilled.

(TMI - sorry.) lol

You sound exactly like my husband saying it's gotta be a little more well done or feels like eating a tree and he would definitely rather have brussels.

I was a 'yoohoo hoo Green Giant' baby growing up on canned Asper. 🤮 Same with Brussel sprouts.🤮 I married a women that actually knew how to cook them properly from scratch. Now I love them. And yeah.... I eat raw asper..... great with a good blue cheese, prime bacon strips and Old Bayed chilled shrimp. Give me a beer and I am good.

We had the poor kid half way to the ER before an honest-to-God responsible adult got it all sorted out...

You know, I have to say that I've never noticed my pee smelling badly after eating asparagus. However I am 6'2" so maybe I'm just farther away from the toilet water than some of you other people....

You’re up there breathing that rarefied air 😀 I roast asparagus with just EVOO, kosher salt and pepper.

I don't bother with asparagus, It's too much kerfuffle to cook for a just okay vegetable.

I'll have to try this roasting and sautéing. I've just microwaved it for around a minute, wrapped in a paper towel. I put stuff on it (usually some kind of shredded cheese or a little oil and seasonings) after. I don't eat it often because I'm not a fan of the pee smell. And because it's difficult to find good asparagus. Much easier to find good broccoli.

When my son was in pre-school, I made cupcake caterpillars for the class. The icing was alternated bright blue and bright yellow (with licorice legs, antenna…etc) I used actual Wilton food coloring. The next day my son called me into the bathroom - his poop was bright GREEN. Scared me at first, then it dawned on me what happened.
I called every mom in the class to give them a heads-up 😄

If I were to catapult you behind the ear with one of my cooked brussels sprouts, you would quickly learn the error of that old hackneyed claptrap .

health.clevelandclinic.org/why-does-asparagus-make-your-pee-smell/When asparagus is digested, asparagusic acid gets broken down into sulfur containing byproducts. Sulfur, in general, is not very pleasant to smell, notes Dr. Bobart. When you pee, the sulfur byproducts evaporate almost immediately, causing you to smell that unpleasant scent.

If you're feeling daring, tempura prep is great as well but a bit of a PITA.

Tried baking asparagus tucked inside sliced chicken breast (350 for 40 mins) today and actually did taste asparagus that resembled tree parts. Mrs G suddenly remembered church meeting as I was removing it from oven. Dogs left kitchen very soon afterwards...

Was watching Peter Sellers in "The Party" last night w/ Mrs. G on Amazon Prime and we have been repeating "birdy num nums" to each other all day. We are easily amused....

About 10 minutes. Less for thin. More for thick. Toss in eevo w lots of s&p beforehand.

Yes, maggie has it right. Cut off the bottoms. Sometimes I cut off half of what you buy in store. Set oven to bake or roast at 425. Lay them out on cooking sheet. EVOO, salt and pepper, maybe a little balsamic vinegar when they come out. Cook for 10-12 mins.

I bake it. Use thick asparagus. Poke A few holes in each stalk and lightly salt them. Let them sit for 30 minutes. Run them into a "wash" of whipped egg whites, Roll them in Panko crumbs and fresh grated parmesan. Bake 'em on a cookie sheet for 5 or 6 minutes at 400.
Will try Asiago to next time.

Now THIS I'm going to try.
I do snap off the ends of the stalk, and I've tried shaving down the lower third of the remaining stalk if it's still thick, but I've never tried poking holes in the stalk OR washing the stalk in egg whites. I will now however. Thanks. And welcome...
