We had to click the heat back on this morning, it was 62 degrees in the house when we woke up. It's back up to a comfortable 68 now and my feet and hands are no longer like ice!!

This is always a fun time of the year to deal with heating versus A/C questions in the home. I just keep the thermostat at 68 degrees in heat mode well until mid-May to avoid waking up freezing cold like you just did. This is clearly the trickiest time of the year if you're trying to shut off the HVAC systems, and it seems to drag on for a few months.

Mother Nature is so fickle this time of year!! I just hate turning the heat on once we've shut it off. LOL.... Heat goes off and I instantly go into pool mode!!

This is why I’m waiting on buying flowers and filling my pots. My neighbor got caught up in the warm days and now she’s having to cover her plants at night. Just wait it out. I remember my daughter’s First Communion in early May…giant hail balls outside the church!

Never plant your flowers before Mother's Day. I say it every year. With the exception of cold weather vegetables, such as lettuce, I never do any serious planting until about Memorial Day weekend. The ground is warmer then and the growth of potted plants quickly catch up with those who planted earlier and then suffered some due to cold weather and very cold groundwater. The biggest problem here in MD is most of the nurseries are out of stock by then. I go to a place called Frank's behind the Costco in Elkridge as they have plenty of plants all throughout the May/June timeframe as compared to places like Home Depot or other chains that have all their vegetable plants out for sale now, and by the time Memorial day arrives, slim to no pickings by then. Flowers I may do around Mother's day, but not with vegetables.

Anybody here complaining about a drop to 60 degrees, need to put on a sweatshirt and/or learn to dress in layers. And peel off according to the temp.
Me I would not mind one damn bit if these temps ran through till fall.
I am not into sunbathing or finding other things to broil or poach my body weather wise.
But that is me. Continue complaining as you wish. 😁😉😄

A boss of mine semi retired and moved to San Diego. I think he relished letting us know the weather forecasts there whenever he'd call in. It seems as though the weather didn't vary much between mid 50's to mid 80's, with the vast majority of readings in the 60's and 70's. It's as close to Hawaiian weather we'll find on the mainland. I don't mind the heat too much, but heat with that stifling humidity and nary a breeze to be had I tend to mind a lot more, especially when it seems to linger on for weeks in what is our summer here. I never paid much attention to dew points before I moved here. Those mid to high 70's dew points are just awful!

That was why I was going to move to the coast of NC/SC border.

I was talking to a clerk in a store about retiring there because the weather was fantastic. She told me not to because even though the weather is great for retirees, the state does not look kindly on retiree transplants and fully taxes your pension/retirement unlike a lot of other states. Another reason I was looking at the coast of the NC/SC border.

www.cnn.com/travel/article/irsina-basilicata-italy-americansIrsina, deep in the southern Basilicata region, is home to over 300 non-Italians from 12 different countries, alongside 4,000 local residents. Until the 1960s, this hilltop village surrounded by fields had a population of 12,000, but mass emigration combined with harsh living conditions meant that by the 1960s, barely 4,500 people were living in the old historical center. Today, things are different. Irsina in 2023 is an expat heaven of mostly retirees and American migrants living the rural Italian dream. More than 15 families from the US and Canada have bought old properties in this remote village, known for its premium wheat fields and olive groves. And they keep buying houses and expanding their properties, spreading the word back home of this dreamy location which seems to be frozen in time. Each time they come back, they bring along relatives and friends, all of whom become happy to spend between 20,000 and 150,000 euros ($22,000-$165,000) for a spacious dwelling with bucolic views. Just dreaming ☺️

Inquiring minds want to know; And you didn't..... because? Granddaughter was born and I didn't want to live that far away from her. That is a great reason. My wife and I considered moving south NC,SC, Fl., Tx. When we retired. Glad we didn't. We both agree that we probably couldn't stand the politics and bigotry that only became clearly obvious about 6 years ago. About 80% of my BIL's family left NJ and now lives in either Florida or Texas. Now considering that he and they are a combination of everything is beautiful, let me give you a hug, hippy dippy weatherman, all guns should be banned and bigotry sucks mentality. I have asked .... how are 'they' dealing with it? NEVER GOT A STRAIGHT ANSWER. I am guessing that weather, low taxes and so on, trumps (pun intended) beliefs.

I have quite a few family member in TX who are very left leaning so I understand from them that a lot depends on just where one is living in TX. The TX hill country (Austin, San Antonio, Canyon Lake, etc.) seems to be more left than right and they are totally disgusted with Abbott and Cruz.

I have no real clue as to where they plant their butts. But like living in Garrett county is way different than living in Baltimore county I can see what you/they are saying. But .... as you pointed out. Having to deal with Abbott and Costello as your ..... ahhhh leader.... is a tough pill to swallow IMO. Maryland had MOM, we also have Harris now. But neither is anywhere in the high level of Azzhole-ism and A & C. Yes, some might say MD's last gov was a jerk .... and I get that. But none of these ever screwed with their constituency and government like A & C have. IMHO.
