Apparently Hannity had an email campaign going to pressure Jordan holdouts.

How do the board Republicans feel about this guy possibly becoming the speaker?

McCarthy had 19 'defectors' on the first ballot back in January, Jordan has 20.

Interesting...
I think the 'bi-partisan' speaker is still a long shot but...

When did covering up the sexual abuse of minors become a family value? Or did the GOP abandon that one-time aspect of its brand and no one sent out a memo?

For those of you counting at home, the person with the most committed votes for speaker is Jeffries (D-NY) with 212 Jeffries 212 Jordan 200

I'm hoping against hope that a sane GOP candidate will emerge and the dems will throw their weight behind him/her. I'm not saying that because I want to 'stick it to the MAGA hats', I'm saying that because I genuinely believe it is in the best interest of the country And, I think the dems would do it for some reasonable concessions from someone they trust

It’s weird being represented by someone who makes the news. Feel like most of the representatives in my life have been totally anonymous people.

Maybe I’ll be proven wrong but I am struck by how often we hear that the so-called ‘moderate’ Republicans are going to finally make a stand and do the right thing only to watch them cave. It is like Lucy with the football Part of it is, they are somewhat responsible and want to govern and they know that chaos and disorder prevent that so it's easier to get them to go along with anyone for Speaker compared to someone on the far right who doesn't care at all and only wants their way or nothing. Somewhat responsible? Look, in my thinking my question to any of 'them' is this. Did you get elected to serve your constituents and the nation as a whole? Or something else. So far am seeing a whole LOT of something else. To be very honest, I have terminated several friendships for way less that what the so called moderate/conservative GOP are trying to pull. The singular word.....complicit.... fits. They are more worried about 'the next election' and keeping their seats. And THAT is so so wrong.

What are we gonna have, an Acting Speaker now? Probably more bluster than substance. We'll just have to wait and see if the hold-outs and their families were threatened and extorted er... influenced and convinced with a friendly meeting of the minds prior to today's vote.

What are we gonna have, an Acting Speaker now? I'll take it and I believe the Dems will as well. The House is almost evenly divided and it seems like they don't have the ability to reach a power sharing agreement like they do for these cases in the Senate. Put this guy in until January 2025 and the voters will either expand the GOP majority or give the House back to the Dems

I’m okay with the government being broken for now. I'm not okay with this. It's become obvious there will be no compromise between the parties, especially with the prospect of Jordan. If the Republicans want Jordan, so be it, but they are too personality and ideologically driven to settle their differences and issues behind closed doors and then pretend they are unified. I suppose the problem with that old-fashioned approach is in today's media-centric sound-byte and video shorts format, so this is what we get. But back to your original point, I'm not okay with this chaotic state of affairs we find ourselves in.

I think this whole episode, and the Trump years in general, is a reminder and a warning that institutions are only as strong as the integrity and good faith of the people who populate them.

Give Democrats a moderate Republican to vote for and they will. Not election denier, child molester MAGA trash. No, they won't. And the reason they won't is the same reason Republicans will likely not vote for a moderate Democrat, should one happen to somehow get elected into Congress. There are no moderates.

There are moderates but most moderates don't want to be SOTH. I think there are some people who would cross the aisle considering the circumstances.
