Am I correct in that the container yards appear to be inaccessible as well? If so, this could have a significant economic impact nationally.

That said, I don't think it should take more than a couple months to clear the shipping lanes. The longer term problem is going to be the loss of I-695.

It could've been worse. Some people were able to evacuate the bridge after the warning.

Recall when she was a respected journalist on CNBC. That literally made no sense. But then again, it's Faux News.

I'm seeing Baltimore being referred to as the 13th most important port in the US While there are other east coast ports such as New York/Jersey, Norfolk, Philly, and Savannah, you're still going to have some delays due to reduced capacity.

From Wikipedia
as far as I can see, all these facilities are 'inside' the key bridge

Can we just take a moment to recognize the huge amount of work that went into getting an emergency response in place? There are so many organizations there. Well done.
p.s. And, p.s. And, doing as Dundalk/Turner's Station will do, there are already donated items being provided to the teams - food, drinks, blankets, etc.

Moore should talk w Shapiro, PA got that collapsed bridge in Pittsburgh up in record time and that collapsed section of 95 outside Philadelphia. Realize these are vastly different undertakings from an engineering perspective, talking more about the organizational approach. Point of interest, how deep is the river/channel at this point?

If I remember correctly, and its been a few years, the Port of Baltimore receives about 1M intermodal containers annually and about 80% of them are car or car parts.

Shipping channel is at least 50 feet deep I'd imagine, maybe more with the modern gigantic ships.

Apparently those giant cargo vessels do not have deep draughts. I'll bet rough seas with a full load is an interesting experience for the crews. In the Chinese meaning.

Rock and roll doesn't begin to describe it. They are however, so damn heavy, that it isn't as bad as you might think.

There's a pretty good spread here. It's actually a little more diverse than that if I am reading this correctly opendata.maryland.gov/Transportation/Maryland-Port-Administration-General-Cargo/2ir4-626w/data_preview

I couldn't stop throwing up and I don't think we had anything about a 5 foot swell

It’s difficult to watch seeing headlights of cars traveling on the bridge as it collapses. Prayers to victims and their families. I honestly didn’t see any cars traveling across the bridge at the moment of collapse. I saw some tractor trailers who made it out of frame just before it collapsed. Hopefully they made it. What I did see was some stationary cop cars/emergency vehicles, likely for overnight construction. I think you're correct. Subsequent reports seem to indicate what I mistook for traffic turns out to be what you've said - overnight construction vehicles. Apparently there were crews fixing potholes. 8 workers I believe. I also heard the crew issued a Mayday alert in sufficient time to minimize and halt further traffic from going through before the collapse - if so, a very timely and heroic move. I shudder to think if this had happened at 5:15 pm instead.
