Yeah it was awesome. I think I'm getting spoiled because when they were down 3-0 I'm like they'll tie it up at some point.
Angels are pretty bad too.

Obviously this team is playing better than most imagined, but it's frustrating that the FO/Ownership went with a barebones payroll for the season. A little extra investment could've added to what's turned into a competitive team. Presumably Elias is following a plan and does not wish to deviate from it even with a wild card berth possibility. Trying to rush into the playoffs spurred Angelos to make some questionable decisions over the years. (Well, that and making decisions solely on the basis of marketing.) We do not need a return to that. As long as they keep improving I am willing to give Elias the benefit of the doubt. I get that and no need to make stupid deals, but another starting pitcher or infielder would have been nice even before the season started.
Trade deadline and this offseason will be the tell for how real the organization is. I don't really think they should be buyers at the deadline, but I really hope they aren't sellers unless the trades are no brainers.

Trade deadline and this offseason will be the tell for how real the organization is. I don't really think they should be buyers at the deadline, but I really hope they aren't sellers unless the trades are no brainers. Sure, and might have made them better. But at the time, that would have been a dicey prediction. They shouldn't be sellers, although I keep hearing Santander and Mancini mentioned as potential trades. The return had better be well worth it. I kind of trust Elias to ensure that it is, which is a departure from prior general managers. The difference being that Elias was in demand and they hired him anyway. Under Peter, the general manager was generally the fourth or fifth man down the list, because he had to settle for people willing to work for him. Towards the end of his tenure, when it was apparent to the industry that he was a bad baseball man and a bad boss; the only person (apparently) unaware of that was Peter himself. I agree that next year they need to come out of the gate shooting for the post-season and well-positioned to hit that target.

Official site reporting latest MRI of Grayson Rodriguez "clean". As good a result as one could hope for. No timetable for his return per Elias.

1 game under .500 and very much in the race for a WC spot. Heck, they just 4.5 out of second place in the toughest division in baseball.
They can bring up the Norfolk guys, but I'd be careful with messing with anything too much right now. Team has something special going on right now.

Yeah no need to make changes if they continue to win. 2 GB from final wild card spot. Still very unlikely they are able to make the playoffs but it's fun to think about the possibilities on July 11th.

Heston Kjerstad, who faced COVID-19 related challenges including endocarditis of some kind, has been promoted to Aberdeen (High-A). At 23, he is about two years older than the typical A+ player. Hoping he will move quickly through the minor league ranks.
Gunnar Henderson said to be the fifth ranked prospect now.

The current level of play and the prospects on the way, and a #1 draft pick coming up, man it’s pretty encouraging to be an O’s fan right now.

They have been much more enjoyable to listen to (which is how I consume baseball 95% of the time) this year than previous years. Winning has something to do with that, but at least as important to me is the idea of not giving up. Previous years, they'd fall behind and you knew the game was lost. The fact they finally have some guys who can play the game at a high level, instead of a bunch of AAA and "AAAA" guys as in previous years, helps as well.

Streak ended at 10, but as usual, the team didn't give up after falling behind 5-2. They lost 5-4. Urias, who hit a moonshot in Chicago, hit 2 HR, and Mancini added one as well.

They go into the All-Star break at .500, which I never expected. The series against the Rays wasn't a highlight of the year, particularly after a ten game long win streak. But even in today's loss they did not quit. Last year, they fell behind even one run they basically gave up; you knew they were losing the game.
We'll see whether they fade in the second half, but if they continue to play strong there's reason for real optimism for future seasons.

The Rays, despite their lack of big name players, are always good. We played them tight. Yankees up after the break. It doesn't get easier but it's still encouraging to see them playing better and hanging tough against the AL's best.

Draft: Jackson Holliday (son of Matt) selected with first overall pick.

Sounds like a solid pick. Ironically, the other hot pick was another son of a former player: Drew Jones, son of Andruw Jones.

Orioles are 49-48 after taking the first two games from the Rays in a 4-game series. After going 1-18 against the Rays last year, they are 6-6 so far this year. Last night was another exciting late inning comeback. There have been so many this year. What an exciting team.

I'm expecting the Red Sox to have a fire sale and stay down there. I keep waiting for the starting pitching to break down, but they've held their own and then some.

He looks very promising but we hear similar stuff about almost every top 10 draft pick. Every once in a while they do live up to expectations so I can’t say you’re wrong. But more often they don’t live up to the hype. I don’t root for the Orioles but I hope the kid is successful and helps the O’s become contenders again.

Basketball and football picks seem to correlate more reliably between pick position and impact. Baseball picks may be more difficult or the other sports may be better at talent evaluation. Something throbbing brains like Sig Mejdal are probably trying to change.

Terrin Vavra called up. Likely to become Odor's replacement. Odor dogged it down the line during the last out last night and the throw was off the bag. Had he ran out that play he could have been safe and the score would have been 6-5 with Urias coming up.
Vavra should be in the line-up today. His wife is also in third trimester so he probably won't be here too long.

Orioles won 3-0 today taking 3 of 4 from the Rays. Trey Mancini, in what could end up being his last Oriole AB at home, hit an inside-the-park HR. Because of course he did. I personally hope he is not traded.
The Orioles face the Reds, Rangers and Pirates the next 9 games. We need to feed off these bottom feeders.

I really hope they don't trade Mancini. He's a vital piece to a team that has a shot at the playoffs. It would demoralize the team. There is no gain large enough to set them back like that.

I don't know if another team values him the same as we value him here. So any return you get would be a fraction of what he means to this team and what he produces. If you want a AA bullpen arm, trade Santander.
