As much as I love Mateo, his time here is winding down.
Maybe they can keep him as a pinch-runner, defensive replacement late in games.
But it's a numbers game now, and not just for Mateo. I'm looking at Hays, Mullins and Urias too.

Of those, Hays is probably safest, but he could find himself with decreased PT. Same for Mullins if he doesn't start producing. Urias for sure will ride the pine once Holiday is called up next month.

I guess Kemp will be released when Holliday comes up?

Two defensive boots so far though neither qualifies as an error. I’m willing to accept some of this due to the cold but it better stop soon.

I hate hate hate the extra innings runner on second thing. Sorry, I’m sure it’s been beaten to death plenty already.
Coulombe is the man for getting out of the bases loaded no outs jam that Baumann put him in. Not impressed with Baumann so far. He’s given up runs in 3 of 4 appearances.

Yeah, if I had to pick one new rule that made the game worse, the ghost runner would be that rule. I understand their goal, but they must have entertained some better ideas before they settled for that one.
If you want a man on base, say I... earn that!

O’s vs lefty starters so far this year:
Sandoval: 1.2IP, 6H, 2BB, 5R Detmers: 5IP, 2H, 3BB, 1R Ragans: 6.1IP, 1H, 2BB, 0R Falter: 6IP, 1H, 1BB, 0R Gonzalez: 6IP, 5H, 2BB, 2R
Probably facing three righties in Boston. Be a nice break.

PNC Park was great on Friday, especially since they won. But the weather up there made Maryland look normal this time of year.

Crappy series.
Offense stinks and the defense is having their beginning of the year growing pains too.
It might help if Hyde stopped playing guys out of position.

Too many of the righties aren’t hitting. Looking forward to Cowser/O’Hearn rather than Hays plus Santander and Rutschman from the left side. Henderson and Mullins batting against righties should help too. They were both pretty useless against all these lefties.

Super early but it looks like the Yanks may have another homegrown All-star

Off to a hot start for sure. Batted .209 last year and he's a career .263 hitter in the minors so I'd expect his average to come back to earth soon. I do know he is supposed to be good defensively. Kind of like an inverse Jeter. Just looked over the Red Sox roster. Tyler O'Niell is having a blistering start too. O's could use some guys getting hot right about now.

Fortunately the O’s don’t face the Yankees for another three weeks. Fingers crossed they’ve cooled down a bit by then.

He looks like a different player at the plate so far this season (far less swings and misses) and looks more polished on defense. I don't expect him to hit .400 all season but he may live up to the hype after all in terms of being an All-star infielder...

Beating the Red Sox was more like it. Felt more like the team that clobbered the Angels in the first two.

Super excited he's getting called up but if they wait 3 more days they'd save a year on his service clock. I guess they think he's a shoe in to finish in the top ROY voting. Odd decision but exciting.

Ok, so I think I understand it now: "By calling up Holliday within the first two weeks of the season, Baltimore can reap an extra first-round draft pick through the Prospect Promotion Incentive, which awards teams with top prospects who attain a full year of service time and win the Rookie of the Year award. While there are 187 days on the baseball calendar, a full year of service is achieved at 172 days, which Holliday will reach if he remains with Baltimore for the remainder of the season." www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/39910420/source-orioles-calling-top-prospect-jackson-hollidayI think they value the extra top pick here, so maybe this was the plan all along. Now they could be total dicks and send him back down at some point, but they probably figure that they'll get a long term deal done long before losing team control.

They better send Cowser down to make room. Can't break up the power alliance of Kemp, Mateo, Hays, and Urias.

Holliday in the lineup at 2B batting 9th. Another lefty heavy lineup, bodes well.

Irvin’s line looks pretty bad but he was mostly a victim of some tough breaks. Not just the ump but also the ball that fell in over Holliday’s shoulder. The O’s got lucky too though, I mean when was the last time you saw a professional baseball team play defense like Red Sox?

Great win. Love beating Boston in Boston.
It's nice to be 7-4 with so many guys having cold starts. Now it seems like Adley has been bitten by the slump bug. He looked overmatched last night. Rare to see that happen.

Irvin’s line looks pretty bad but he was mostly a victim of some tough breaks. His pitches had some great movement. McDonald said it best, just aim for the middle and let the ball work. Felt bad that his stats didn't back up how well he pitched. That ump was literally blind.

Yeah everyone craps on Irvin but you can see the stuff and it plays. Bad luck last night. Occasional bad pitch but who doesn't do that?
Probably just need him to make another 2-3 starts though, then Means and Bradish could be back.
